Nord Lead A1 waveshaping options

Post by Redsynth »

Hello everybody,

Is it possible to have a waveshaping oscillator in a mixed configuration mode (dual osc config)? I mean...waveshaping is great, but most of us use it in combination with another oscillator. Is this possible? If not, can I hope for such an update?

P.S. Are PWM sounds possible with waveshaping?

I think the oscillator is like the one in the NS2, where you can have one configuration at a time. :-(

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi, from what I have read in the A1 manual, there are some mixed waveform - dual osc - configs where you can control the mix level between them, but I didn't see a dual osc config for a waveshaping mode. Is this so hard for them to implement? It seems like a serious omission in a synth that desperately needs more under the hood features...

Isn't this the same as the NS2, where you have the "'hidden' oscillator and you control the frequency of the 2nd one? As far as I know, the mix is fixed and you control only the frequency.

No...you can only have frequency control in dual osc /detune mode...not in dual osc / mixed configuration mode. Unfortunately, waveshaping appears only in single osc mode where you have control over the shape. It would really be great if they could add a dual osc / waveshaping mode. What's the purpose of a single waveshaping osc anyway? People always use it in combination with an other osc and this doesn't seem to be possible with A1. I'm writing all this, because A1 is an upgradable digital synth at a premium price, but it still doesn't have basic functionality. I can live with only one LFO and a simple envelope as modulation sources, but, at least they should make the OSC section very powerful...I still don't know why we should sacrifice an osc in order to have a noise source. Was it so difficult to implement a dual osc + noise config...I'm still very confused with this instrument and unless they add something really cool in the next updates, I can't see Nord selling many of them.

Just downloaded the A1 Manual and yes, you are right, this mode is non-existent to the NS2 and lets you mix 2 different wave shapes in a set of pitch intervals. Nice one, this is better than I though.
