Sample Synth Level ... do I have a bug?

Post by Warmbrother »

Hello,
I'm relatively new to the Nord Piano 2 and can't seem to find an answer in the User Manual or Forum.
When I engage the Sample Synth button, I notice that I have to slightly move the Level knob to engage
the full sound. Is this normal? Thank you so much! Roy

Where is the volume knob to begin with? Some of the samples are fairly quiet, and also you might need to tweak the attack. The good thing is that the knobs are right there to tweak. Also, do you have a volume pedal mapped to the synth? I set mine up that way and it is really handy.

Hi Nostatic, Thank you for your reply. The knob that I touch to invoke the full sound is marked "Level" ... before touching the knob, just slightly, the sample is quiet (almost no difference from before engaging the Sample Synth), then, it comes on full volume of the sample. I don't have a volume pedal mapped to the synth, though I do have the standard three pedals module that comes with the Nord Piano 2. To give and example: I'm playing one of the piano samples, then engage the "On" switch of the "Sample Synth" section ... the sound is barely changed ... next, I adjust the "Level" knob, just slightly and the sample comes on full tilt. (I hope that makes sense). Roy

I've only noticed this with programs. If the synth volume is set low in the patch, the knob won't be activated until I touch it. And if the knob was in the high position, then it immediately jumps to that volume and follows my control.

It's not a bug, it's just how it works. One solution would be to set the sample level where you want it, re-save the program, and then the sample would be at the right level next time you use that program.

Yeah, this is a feature, not a bug and the way it has to work. The knob is "dedicated" to one task, but since there are multiple programs saved, the position it shows doesn't necessarily reflect the setting in the patch/program (need a motorize knob or a dynamic display for that like on the NS2). As RedLeo said, just resave the program at a higher volume level. Or, map the synth volume to a volume pedal - to me that is a really flexible way to work around things.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply with such great detail - you guys are just awesome! This was important to me as I bought this board from Long & McQuade, it was the only one that they had, a floor model, and full price ... if it was a bug or electronic error, I would have exchanged it.
