Using Notebook or iPad with Stage 2

Post by john_nick »

I want to have a small Notebook or iPad or small laptop so I can use midi when playing live.

Does anyone have a similar setup they can suggest?

Thanks

Hi!

I sometimes connect my NS2 and iPad to each other. A lot of things work just fine. And it's a lot of fun. 8-)
iMIDIPatchbay is great. I also have lots of SW synths and EPs on my iPad, but I run them mostly from a MIDI kbd (X-key CME) or my NL2X.

But what are YOU interested in doing over MIDI?

For most of the time, I will be using it at home to accompany myself with a good collection of midi tracks/songs that I have acquired over the years, but I would also like to use it in a live environment when playing in the jam sessions, entertaining, at my local pub.

Would a mini-pad have sufficient specifications as that would be a really handy size.

Hi again ...

You are not thinking of General MIDI-tracks, are you? I got a feeling that is not what you use a NS2 for. Why not mix and prepare backing tracks in mp3 format at home? With your DAW. Probably much more safer and stable at a gig.

As far as I know the iPad mini is powerful enough. My old iPad 2 does the job very well.

Probably mixing my midis up. I dont think my keyboard can handle general midi so your suggestions are possibly the best solution. I'll see if I can convert any of my GM stuff to an acceptable format

Correct. The Nord Stage does not have a General MIDI engine (thank G*d).
