Lead (4) through effect pedals

Post by BobtheSquirrel »

Hi!

 I'm going to try out sending my NL4's signal through some effect pedals (chorus, flanger, drive, delay, harmonizers, the lot) and see how that sounds, and I was wondering if some of you have some experience with it! Any tips? Things/specific pedals and/or settings I should definitely hear? Do's and donts?

I like the analog EHX Deluxe Memory Boy and the digital TC Helicon Nova Delay. I just got a Lead 2X and plan to try them over the weekend.

Interesting ... I have put a bid for a Behringer Virtualizer ... it is supposed to be stereo (?) ... as my L2X (?) ... are you planning to use guitar effect pedals? Mono? Are the onboard effects of the L4 not enough?
I love my second and new L2X - it has a powerful nasty bite. But it would also be nice to be able to add some effects live. Mellow it up a bit ... as I can do with the Stage2.

Please reveal your findings!

This Zoom MS-70 CDR that Gustavo mentioned before looks very interesting. I have not seen one yet and have no idea of the sound quality, but there seem to be some interesting presets in the demo.

You can use up to 6 effects in series and it has stereo in and out.

The Zoom looks to be a cool unit! Easy to put on top of your Lead. A Virtualizer comes in 19" size. Has to be put underneath? But it is only a little bit more expensive.

Is stereo really necessary? Could I run one channel through a pedal and the other one "clean"? The Virtualizer seems to take that shortcut on some effects.

Interesting ...

Yes it has a Mono input and output. If anybody has one I would like to hear their opinion.

I have a boss dd20 delay which is great for the nord lead, and a line6 mm4 chorus/phaser which i mostly use for my rhodes. One important thing to check is that the effect box can handle the high signal level from a synth, otherwise it will distort when you play too loud!
Good luck!

Preferably with stereo effects, because creating a loop that loops the R signal out when I loop the L chain (with mono effects) in is getting a bit too much of a hassle live. The onboard effcts of the L4 are not enough because there's no chorus, phaser, amp sim, amp-like drive and/or distortion, boost, etc.

The Zoom looks interesting indeed! Although I'm a bit doubtful of the quality of the actual effects as Zoom is still pretty new to this area of sound. I'll try to find a shop that has 'em to try it out!

I just got an idea ... found this old red bean on a shelf in my "studio". It had cost me 10€. :D
Mono in - stereo out? It seems to work fine. Signal levels OK. Decent supply of effects. Fun and straightforward to tweak.
Or ... was I too fast & lazy again? At least the color is right. Whaddyathink?

Ah cool! I never heard this one, but it looks like it has a ton of options so at the very least it's fun to try out. For €10,- you can't go very wrong, right?
