upgrade from 3HP to stage2 76 or piano 2?

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

upgrade from 3HP to stage2 76 or piano 2?

Post by fccmt »

Due to the keybed noise problems on my 3HP, I was planning to upgrade to one of these two keyboards: Stage2 76 or to nord Piano2. My question is: which one?

1. I already have an Oberheim/Viscount OB3-square and a Jen Moog (getting repaired), but the portability is a MUST! I know that the Stage2 could do it all and probably better…
2. The keybed is also very important to me (endurance; less noisy, etc). Some people say that due to aftertouch strip, the Piano2 has a better "feeling" on the keys!?
3. The price difference is important, of course
4. Can I live only with the sample section on the Piano2 (for organ type sounds)?
5. The triple pedal is included on the piano2…

Can you guys give me a help on this…because I never had the opportunity to try one of this options,

thank you,

Hey.
I never played a Stage HA, can´t tell the difference between Stage and NP2. I think both are way better than the HP :)
When you need the organ, go for the stage - there is no serious organplaying with Nord´s samples.
If you buy the piano, probably better keep the OB3. Ask yourself! How important is the triple pedal for your needs?
I almost use the sustain pedal and nearly never the other two. One advantage is the simulated pedal noise which makes the feeling
more realistic.
Perhaps there is a new Nord release in the future...? They have to bring out a stage with the C2D sound. If that will happen,
the price of the actual Stage will drop drastically!!! But this is purely speculative.

What dynanord says is true, if I were you I'd wait until NAMM to see if nord comes up with something new.

But if you MUST get it now, it seems obvious that you need organ sounds, that's why you have the OB3-squared. If you have the economic capacity, I would totally go for the Nord Stage 2 since it has the same organ engine as the NE3HP. It will be like having two NEHP plus two synths. If you get the nord piano to me it makes more sense to do so as a complement to the NE3 and not as a replacement since it is an improved piano and keybed but lacks the organ section, which is possibly essential to you.

Saludos,
Gustavo

dynanord and gustavo, thank you very much for your help and replies!

Unfortunately I cannot wait until NAMM and I'm aware that NAM, could be a major opportunity on to getting crazy drop down prices on the actual NS2! Because of that, maybe the piano is a more trustworthy investment…or not…because, they may well appear with some new variations on the piano2 too.

Dynanord: the nord triple pedal is the only pedal who gives me the opportunity to perform half sustain pedal technics…or am I wrong?

Gustavo: yes indeed...I need the organ…although the OB3 has a very nice rich tone (and looks). Sometimes I like it more than the 3 HP...but the portability could be my principal factor for a decision. With the NS2 my two keyboards may become kinda "obsolete". And I think that's a good thing…although I have to get a Ninja training to be fast enough to change the presets and sounds.
On my opinion and only judging by what I saw on youtube (and other channels), I think the price of the NS2 is exaggerated. It's a good professional board but a little hyped in the price.
One thing I don't like on the 3HP is that when you change a preset the sound is cut…and the NS2 does it too. And at that price range it's not very pretty, if you know what I mean.

But at this moment I'm aiming towards NS2 76 HA (portability factors; organ engine)…

Just for the record: the Organ engine on the NS2 is superior to the 3HP. The 3HP is more similar with the organ engine used on the Nord C1.

once again thank you for your time,

You are right.
I tested another sustain pedal (FC4) and there is no half pedalling. Always used the piano with the triple pedal.
Ninja training would be fine for me :)
Make a wise decision and good luck !!!
