Re: Stand for C2
Just finished my stand for the C2D, using old B3 legs purchased on eBay. Glued up some wood to 3" thickness. I also replaced the sides of the keyboard because the B3 legs were stained very dark and I didn't think I could successfully match the red stain. I used bed frame hardware to mount the two cross braces. The stand weighs 27 lbs. and breaks down to four pieces. There are a few rough spots I'd do differently if I ever had to. Anyway, let's see if I can upload pictures.

Re: Stand for C2
Thanks a lot. It ended up being a lot more work than I thought it would be when I started!

Re: Stand for C2
Hope this will inspire others to take a chance and get creative. Sorry, but not looking for another "side job" especially one so time consuming. Time consuming for me because I have so little woodworking experience. I was afraid I was going to make a huge mistake the first time I drilled through the oak veneer it took me so long to glue on "just so." I made a few mistakes and went back to patch them up later. This is the first project I've ever done like this. If I can do it, anybody can do it.Michael Wright wrote:Nice job!! Now everyone will want you to make them one!!
BTW, Valhalla Woodworking sells reproduction B3 legs. They aren't cheap but sure look good. Since they're made from new wood, you won't be limited as to the color stain you go with. Their B3 legs include what would be the corners of the cabinet. This would have made construction much simpler. My B3 legs are 22" long and I added about another 5" with the tops of the stand sides.
One more thing, at first I thought about just covering the red wood sides of the C2D with veneer but the edges were rounded off so much I felt it would be difficult to get a tight fit for the veneer at the edges. So I made new wood sides covered with veneer. Then I stained the crap out of the new pieces to get them as dark as the old B3 legs.
Glad you like it.

OMG!
I'm in love!!!
I thought my red C2 was cool, but this thing is breathtaking!
And looks really practical too, it will look great in your living room, but very easy to break down and carry around.
Amazing job, really!

Re: Stand for C2
I was wondering... in all the DIY cosmetic modification to Nords that I have read of, everyone goes to great legths to manufacture new wooden sides.
Isn't it possible to just sand off the red stain and re-paint the bare wood?
Or is the wood stained too deep, and you would have to remove too much thickness to get rid of all the red?
Not that I want to try anything like that (especially as long as the warranty is still valid!), but in the future, you never know...

Re: Stand for C2
For me, the issue was how to stain existing 40 year old B3 legs already stained dark mahogany, to match the lighter red stain of the Nord. I just didn't think I could do that, so decided to make new sides for the C2D. This allowed me to put away the red sides in case I ever sold my organ. Then the buyer would have the option to use the red or not.
