Extending cable length from NP to pedal unit?
Hi all, I have a Nord Piano (original model) with the supplied 3-pedal unit. I'd like to be able to use an extension cable to extend the distance between keyboard and pedal unit (longer than length of the cable attached to pedal unit.) Does any one know what type of cable might accomplish this? Might an off the shelf female to male TS or TRS extension cable work, or is the cable attached to the pedal unit a proprietary design that won't play nicely with others? Thanks.
Re: Extending cable length from NP to pedal unit?
Judging from the image below, a standard TRS (stereo) extension cable should work. I don't have one of those pedals, so I can't test this to verify but it looks like a bog-standard TRS jack on that pedal.

Right! Just checked my NP and Mjbrands recommendation is correct.

Don't play piano standing up. It's just not proper. Your back will eventually tell you to sit down.LA lefty wrote:Thank you, gents!

The cable on the triple pedal is already a mile too long - certainly long enough to use standing up (although why you'd want to?). I shortened mine.
I also suspect the capacitance in longer cable lengths affects the signal and can give problems; particularly with sustain.

Any particular reason you suspect there might be issues? You mention additional capacitance, but it seems to me the added capacitance (and resistance) added would be fairly insignificant.
Of course, I might very well be overlooking something

Those are simple open-closed switches. A Radio Shack extension cable should work fine, but standing on one foot playing piano gets very uncomfortable.

Well mine was problematic. Admittedly, I just changed the entire lead and jack plug rather than diagnose it to any detail. I still struggle to understand why you'd want the cable any longer than it is.mjbrands wrote:Any particular reason you suspect there might be issues? The Triple pedal is more complex than that, but a normal sustain pedal would indeed just contain a switch.Ledbetter wrote:Those are simple open-closed switches.
This post has some more info on the inner workings: http://www.norduserforum.com/general-no ... tml#p10078
The pedal uses rubber contact switches similar to those in the keyboard and it uses resistors to generate varying voltages based on what pedals are depressed (and in the case of sustain, how far it is pressed down).
