As far as I understand, the Fazioli and Bosendorfer samples are geared towards Solo Piano or Piano centric music. If you want something more "jazzy" try either the Lady D or the Studio Grand samples. Personally (I also play jazz), I'd rather have EPs instead of acoustic pianos mainly because of the poor quality of speakers we usually deal with and because there are some EPs that lack low end that allow a bass solo.

Anyway, last night was a jazz gig, a quartet. While I enjoyed the Ns2, I could help but think the Studio Grand 2 is the only useable sound for me in that situation. It has the longest sustain. During bass solos I tried comping using the Fazioli or Bosendorfers and I didn't last more than 4 bars. Just horrible. I might sell it and return to a cheaper Yamaha or something.
All three are at the top of the class and above the Kronos as far as piano player connection to the sound and keyboard. Again my order of preference is-Cp5, Nord Piano, 700NX and Kronos.
Hi Dave
I agree with all your points, so much so that I am now going to keep the CP5. To sell it would mean I was selling the better piano - apart from organ sounds - just to save carrying the weight. It will probably end up being just a home keyboard, unless the gig space allows to take both ( I would need to take a roadie as well)
Good luck finding another - the UK dealer offered me exactly half what I paid for mine - so I luckily I didn't do a trade in, but that is the sort of price you will probably get one for.
Hi pjstingray
I think using it for home and on certain gigs sounds like a good plan. That is my strategy as well like I mentioned.
In my studio I often went over to the CP5 after a practice session on my Steinway and just fun played along with the jazz/latin drum tracks.
Yeah, it's never worth trading it in and getting half of what you paid...you might as well hold onto it. Good luck with what you end up with on the lightweight gigging front.
Hi All,
I am a beginner at the piano, but considering Roland 700NX because of all the nice feedback all over the web. Currently I have a Casio Privia PX750.
I have a very specific question. I have heard the term "key action" being used. When I compare my digital to the acoustic upright I use at the music institute, the way I interpret this term as consisting of two aspects -
1. A certain force is required to initiate a key movement
2. Another amount of force is required to sustain that till the hammer strikes internally.
In case of my digital piano, the keys seem to move easily once the movement starts and "bounce back" rather easily. Whereas in the acoustic, they have a resistance "through" the downward motion till the hammer strikes and then don't seem to bounce back as much.
Can someone confirm that it is specifically the second aspect above in which the 700NX is fairly close to the acoustic?
The answer will greatly help me make my decision. Hope to see a reply here.
Thank you very much.
regards
Alok

Hi, welcome to the forum. You should get more informative replies if you ask that question in a Roland forum, this one is about Nord keyboards... but more important is to find a place where you can try the various pianos yourself and experience it. The feeling of the mechanism can be subjective. You might like it or not.

Ok, will post in the more relevant forum. The subject line seemed to indicate this might be right thread. Even though the key action feel is subjective, someone how has played 700NX and the acoustic could give some idea. There is no place here in my city (Bangalore, India) where I can see this particular model, this is probably not even a fast moving model in my country.
Thanks.
Alok
