Looking for Ac Piano (like RD 700SX) and Rhodes (like Sv-1)
Hi,
I bought a Nord Stage2 and love it I love the concept the, interface and the all in one idea.
BUT: I really like the Acoustic Piano of the Roland RD 700NX much more. It is so powerful, so strong and clear. Is there any preset for some kind of cool ac. Piano Sound? The Stage has a weakness in the upper range and so on.
I mean I heard that some people got great results by layer (with Synth, E-Piano,...) and a little bit EQ etc.
Would be very happy to get something like this.
The other Sound I was really impressed and was not in the Stage (even the Stage Rhodes are very good) was the famous Preset Rhodes of the Korg SV-1. I like this power, the smoothness when playing soft and the bell-shaped sound.
For me it is so good to play at different velocities.
The basic sample of the Stage 2 Rhodes are pretty good. Does anybody have some layers, Effects etc. version to get closer to a sound like in the SV-1?
Thank you so much!!

I agree with you, the nord piano samples sound a bit thin in the upper range compared to other brands, especially in a live environment. If you layer other instruments over the ac. piano, it might be less thin, but it will compromise the piano sample. That's why it's never a good idea to do that if you opt for a clean piano sound.
I already tried layering two different piano samples but the result wasn't very pleasing either.
Which piano sample do you like best, btw? I almost exclusively use the Bösendorfer. Not a fan of the new Fazioli.

Hi I love the Bosendorfer XL on the NS2. However, I've always had Yamaha P series (P80, P90) and a CP33, which sound the same and are fantastic pianos. Nord piano sounds straight out of the box sound a bit thin and weird in the EQ to my ears especially after years of Yamaha. So I set up my CP33 and my NS2, found the sound closest to my Yamaha sound, which is the Bosendorfer and then set about EQ-ing it to sound and behave in roughly the same way. I am actually very very happy with this sound. I have the Dynamics set to number 1 and my EQ setting are as follows: Bass +7.9, Mid Freq 263hz Mid boost +3.6, Treble +7.6. The reverb is set to stage 1 and the knob turned to 3.0 or more if you like more reverb. Give it a try and see if you like it! If you are a Roland piano sound fan it may be a little too Yamaha for you!!

Hi, thank you, sounds great!
Happy for any other Ideas and Sounds. I like the Bosendorfer, the Yamaha, the Lady D and the new Fazioli. Just need more power without beeing to sharp and screaming.
Thanks a lot.

Hi,
I start from Nicko's settings to work on Nord 's piano Eq.
I'm happy with these :
Dyn : 0
- Bosen : Bass 4,6, mid 263Hz :+3 High +1,5
- C4 : Bass 5,3, mid 5k : -3, High : -3
- Italian : Bass 5,1, mid 263Hz : + 3,2, high +1,3
Any opinion?

As a general rule with EQs, it is always better to cut rather than boost. I have also found that the character of the NS2 pianos change a lot depending on the listening system type (headphones, studio monitors, PA system, stagemonitors, etc..) and across the same system depending on brand/model used.
Personally, when I use headphones (Sony MDR7560) I sometimes cut the mid-freq around 550-650HZ about -6dB; when home I use an old (but good enough, I have to play at low volumes so..) 2.1 PC speakers system (Cambridge soundworks) and usually I apply no EQ as the system itself shapes the sound quite OK.
So, all in all, I don't think there is a single and definitive EQ setting for all tastes, everyone has to find his/her own and may need more than 1 8for home/headset, studio, rehearsal room...)
