Nord Wave (NWP) files on a Stage 2?
I tried to upload NWP (Nord Wave files from the Nord Site) into my NS2. I was unclear if that was possible. Does anyone know if NWP files will play on a NS2?
(I am able to upload piano sounds and samples successfully into my NS2).
I'm wondering if they are just not compatible or is it user error (me) and I need to read the manual more.

Not possible. NWP stands for Nord Wave Program; it contains the Wave-specific settings that make up a program. It might make use of a sample (NSMP), but that'll always be stored in a separate file and those can be shared between the Wave and Stage 2 (also Electro 3+ and Piano). The synth section on the Stage 2 is similar to the Wave, but it is a simpler version and the Wave can do a number of things the Stage 2's synth section can't.
A while ago I made a simple utility that can show some of the contents of an NWP file, so you get an idea how it is constructed. It is not very user-friendly and unless you have experience using command-line applications (MS-DOS, UNIX, etc.) it is probably of little use to you. It can run on a Mac, Windows or on Linux.

I would like the utility though-- i'm pretty command line friendly.
Any idea where i can get a good distorted or fuzzy guitar like sound patch for my NS2? Or the parameters to do so.
I can check the forum a bit more. (I had found a killer NWP patch).

I'm curious, what are the files programmed with or in what language? Or how can you tweak the files- text editor?

I use a patch for MJ's Beat It that has a dirty distorted guitar to chug power chords under the solo when working with 1 guitarist.jro_sf wrote:Any idea where i can get a good distorted or fuzzy guitar like sound patch for my NS2? Or the parameters to do so.
For this I took one of the guitar samples and fed it through the Amp simulator (twin emulator), rolled the bass and mids up a bit and wound the drive up.
Very convincing when you play power chords (I + V + I)

Check this post (or the whole thread): http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-wave- ... tml#p11786jro_sf wrote:I would like the utility though-- i'm pretty command line friendly.
If I remember correctly, the zip file contains the source code as well as binaries for Windows, OS X and Linux.
Let me know if you run into any issues.
They're stored in a binary file. I did some analysis of the format, but I don't have a Wave anymore so can't really do much more.jro_sf wrote:I'm curious, what are the files programmed with or in what language? Or how can you tweak the files- text editor?
There's a document on the format linked in this post: http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-wave- ... tml#p22878
My biggest issue was that there's a checksum in the files. I can generate new programs, but I can't upload them, because the Sound Manager notices the checksum is corrupt and refuses to download those new sounds. Given enough time (or someone smarter than me) it should be possible to figure out how those checksums are calculated; I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same algorithm for most (newer?) Nords.

As per my post above, here is what I use for the solo in Beat It when working with just one guitarist:
