Nord Pedal Keys 27 settings?

Post by Octopus »

Hi. I just bought the nord pedal keys 27. There is no choose for this in the swell pedal settings in nord c2d. Is the default settings (Roland ev5) the best for the exp pedal at the nord pedal keys 27? Or is another setting better?

Try them. See which curve gives you a pleasing swell pedal action, and volume-tone curve (both, I believe, change throughout the swell pedal throw, as it is modeled on the old Hammond variable-capacitor volume pedal, the best one ever made for an organ.) If the pedal-keys sends volume change messages through the MIDI plug, and doesn't have it's own TRS plug, it may not go through those settings, and is probably set to emulate a Hammond swell pedal in the B3 mode, I would think.

The default is NOT the best with pedal keys and leslie 3300. I have tried them all and my favorite is the second Roland type (7). Softer and more linear and the drive comes in at the last 20-10%.

Hammonds are usually very sensitive in the first part of the travel of the volume pedal.

"Hammonds are usually very sensitive in the first part of the travel of the volume pedal."

As I understand it, since a variable capacitor is used instead of a pot. both the volume and tone balance change throughout the range. And the volume "pop" of a Hammond pedal is like nothing else I've ever found. Ever try the rolling-contact-on-carbon-plate type volume pedal that was in Baldwin organs? Terrible, and got worse as the carbon wore away.

Much releived to find out I'm not the only one using the 'wrong' setting for my pedal. I use the 'Ro' setting, too.

I just switched from the Yamaha to the Roland setting and like it better. It seems I'm now able get more distortion out of my 3300 w/out putting the pedal all the way down.
