Global Transpose Nord Stage 2 (SW73) with Roland FP-7F
Hi,
I have a problem which i cannot fix. Maybe you guys can help me out. Okay; here's my situation.
I have two keyboards; Nord Stage 2 SW73 (slave) which i have above my a Roland FP-7F (master). Now im using my Roland as a pure midi keyboard in which im using for the piano sounds only. So .. Nord Stage is host of the 2 sounds but! Im playing the piano part on my FP-7F and all the Organ sounds on the Nord.
Here comes the tricky part! .. when im playing songs with the band i tend to use the 'transpose button' on my Roland FP-7F in which lets me play all the piano sounds from the Nord in e.g. 'transpose +2' ('playing' note C on Roland lets me 'hear' a note D). But when im playing the Organ part on the Nord it just sounds 'without the transpose'. (and yes i have turned my Roland to midi out on channel 16 = which is set to 'Midi Global Channel midi*16) on the Nord.
e.g. all things getting clear.
Nord Stage 2 SW73 (slave in terms of 'sampler' for the Organ and Piano sounds.)
- only using the keyboard NS2 as my Organ.
- midi in - receiving all midi data from Roland FP-7F.
- 'Midi Global Channel (midi*16)
- when 'playing the note C' it lets me 'hear a note C' but wants to change note C into a D. (only the piano transpose part affects the Nord. the Organ stays in same key - no transpose).
Roland FP-7F (master midi piano)
- only using the keyboard for the piano sounds from NS2
- midi out - sending all midi data to the Nord Stage 2 SW73
- lets me play only the 'piano sounds' from the NS2
- wants me to control 'transpose +2' for the Roland sounds and wants to change the 'Global Tranpose' on the NS2 to the same value.
- when playing in 'transpose +2' the Rolands 'sounds a note D' when 'playing the note C'.
Im stuck and also interested if more people know about this problem! Hope i informed you guys well enough haha.

Re: Global Transpose Nord Stage 2 (SW73) with Roland FP-7F
The problem seems to be this one:
How could the slave know which transpose setting you have chosen in the master?
I think it can't. The master is transposing the midi messages that are played, not the local transposition of the slave.
I guess that you need to transpose the slave too, but I do not know what this does to the incoming midi message from the master. (sorry I am away from the instrument now).

I think you're right in terms of that there is no 'transpose message' is send from the Roland to the Nord. But then. How could a the Nord know how much it should be pitched then? Or should we have some sort of 'routing with midi in/out and maybe midi mergers and stuff'? Interesting though!

Roland FP-7F

Nord Stage 2 SW

In other words. The Roland FP-7F does send System Exlusive (SysEx) messages (address 40 00 05 - data 28-58 - MASTER KEY-SHIFT);
but the Nord Stage 2 SW doesn't send nor receive SysEx messages. So yeah. You can't send the Nord data about 'transpose' or other things.
Problem can't be fixed then this way by letting the Nord (slave) being controlled by some other keyboards (master). Any other idea's? Hm.

I guess (but cannot confirm right now) that you need to transpose the 2 instruments.

Does not send SysEx? I think the "O" in the chart means yes and "X" means no.

Re: Global Transpose Nord Stage 2 (SW73) with Roland FP-7F
System Exclusive will not work between two devices of a different make. The "Exclusive" means that the Sysex data is exclusive to that manufacturer, and usually to a particular model. Sysex is an exception to the standardisation of MIDI and each manufacturer uses their own "custom" Sysex data to communicate between models of their own equipment. In other words, Sysex uses MIDI to transmit itself, but (in one sense) it's not really MIDI data.
You could think of it as a deliberate "loophole" built into the MIDI specification to allow each manufacturer to do their own thing.

HI everyone,
I have exactly the same problem, with my Roland RD 700 GX....
I think there's no solution for this problem, but from the other side i can't believe..
is there may be a device that can transpose two keyboards and a module in one action?
Is there any one who knows a midi specialist who can help me?
Jan

1.What happens if you transpose both keyboards?
2. What about playing in the other key?
