What keyboards you use and why? What you miss with your NS?
Hi everyone,
I didn't find a topic about this so...
I have a NSC (Nord Stage Classic) and I'll buy a Motif XF6 to go with it.
I thought about the Nord Wave, but at the same price of Motif XF6, I will get the motif.
I think it will supply my needs.
So, what you guys use to play gigs or at studio or home?
What you guys use to supply the missing sounds or features from the Nord Stage?

I have the Nord Stage Ex and Electro 3. They fill a role as vintage instrument substitutes, with added bonus that the NE3 plays some great samples, and the Stage EX has a very effective polysynth.
I sold off all my vintage gear years ago and haven't looked back.
I also have a Korg M3-88 and Radias Rack mostly for hardware sampling, sketchpad sequencing and recording.
I mainly use the Nords live, as I play vintage rock/ prog rock.

The NS2 would replace the NSex and the NE3 for you?Hanon_CTS wrote:I have the Nord Stage Ex and Electro 3. They fill a role as vintage instrument substitutes, with added bonus that the NE3 plays some great samples, and the Stage EX has a very effective polysynth.

No, unfortunately not:(cleito wrote: The NS2 would replace the NSex and the NE3 for you?
I use the NE3 as my waterfall keyboard for Hammond B3 and Clav solos, and the NSex for weighted key piano stuff.
I am considering replacing the NSex with the NS2. This would make me VERY happy:)

Why not just get a NS2 and a midi controller? then you still have both weighted and none weighted action. If you only want to bring one keyboard sometimes (like with the Electro) then you could just buy a NS2 compact(or SW73 as they are called now) and a weighted controller maybe?Hanon_CTS wrote:No, unfortunately not:(cleito wrote: The NS2 would replace the NSex and the NE3 for you?

I don't know if you can get the same keybeds in midi controllers though, but if you could get the same quality then it might be an option.
Anyway if you can afford a NS2 instead of your NSEX then that is a great option too.
Sorry to meddle :-)

The advantage of using an E3 (or some other keyboard with sounds) over a soundless MIDI controller is that you have backup. If one keyboard fails (gets something dropped on it, gets a drink spilled onto it, whatever), you can still get through the gig on the other keyboard.Cbas wrote:Why not just get a NS2 and a midi controller?Hanon_CTS wrote:I am considering replacing the NSex with the NS2. Re: What keyboards you use and why? What you miss with your
Since I got my NSC a few years back, I have tried to force myself to rely on it for everything.
I've tried an NL2 or a Roland JD800 on top (on an Ultimate Apex), and at one gig (a never to be repeated 3 keyboard tier with the NSC on it's legs) with both an Alesis Andromeda and a Moog Voyager.
For little club gigs (which is all we play) it isn't worth the hassle to take the rest of the stuff.
So in summary - I try to use the NSC to fill the gaps (which often takes some thought out morphing, splits, pedals and in-song patch changing - and a few crossed hand moments!)
(I play guitar on some of the songs anyway, so if the NSC were ever to fail, we'd bluff the set on guitar or change out some keys-heavy numbers).
I'm sure I'd feel different if I didn't have to lug all my own gear!

Re: What keyboards you use and why? What you miss with your
Well, like some other persons, I sometimes missed having waterfall keybed for clavs and organs.
But something else I missed was drumtracks and sometimes arpegiated pads, so to tackle both problems, I got hte m50.
I currently dont gig much, but if I did and took both boards, if the NS failed, I could still play everything with the M50, or if the M50 fails, it does not really matter unless Iam actually using sequences or the drum track. In which case I am completely screwed and would need to play something very different

Re: What keyboards you use and why? What you miss with your
I'm playing a lot of contemporary R+B/Rap/Dance music along with the classic older stuff and I am using my S-70XS for it all.
I'm thinking really seriously about getting the NS-2 because I am so disappointed in the new S6 Piano in the Yamaha but I'm concerned about getting the contemporary sounds out of the Nord.
I could always get a Motif XS rack to supplement the NS-2 but I would prefer not having to carry and set it up. If anyone here is playing that type of music I would love to hear your opinion about this.
I hope this isn't off topic for this thread.
