Hi all,
I just changed my piano 5 for the 6 and I noticed there is a slighly humm sound from the machine. I have read some post about it and the question is should I bother (can't hear on headphones) It is is od cause my piano 5 was silent when power was on.
Thanks in advance

Re: Nord Piano 6 makes a humm sound
This really seems to be hit-or-miss. I just read through this thread (which you probably also saw): viewtopic.php?t=25779 and some folks there have exchanged their unit for another one which had the exact same power supply hum. While other people said they never had the power supply hum with their keyboards. (Most Nord keyboards have the same PSU model).
I just got a Wave 2 which has a hum, and my observations are:
- I can hear it in a quiet room, even a few meters away, at a similar level to a fridge hum. The hum is more like a low tone than noise, which is what makes it annoying for me.
- I record as a "singing keyboard player" in my living room with the microphone positioned above the keyboard, and (based on a very quick test recording) the microphone does not pick up the hum. So in that sense it is fit-for-purpose for me.
I had a Yamaha YC and a Roland RD previously, both had no audible PSU hum. So I was a bit surprised but seems this is common with Nord?
I'm also trying to figure out if I should bother; the shop I got it from is a bit of a trip, but I could potentially go there and ask to see another Wave 2 model in a quiet room to check if it has the same issue. Is that something you could do with where you got your Piano 6?
Other points that inevitably appear in these threads:
- There is an unrelated high-pitched buzz that you can hear if you hold your ear to the OLED screen (for those Nords that have one). It is not really audible otherwise.
- The hum is not related to audio signal (I can hear mine with all volume turned down and not connected to speakers/amp)
- The hum is not related to vibrating keyboard stand (I can hear mine with the Nord placed on a thick carpet)

Re: Nord Piano 6 makes a humm sound
Thanks for the answer. I e-mail the musicshop and we will see if it can be changed for a new one. Strange that Nord doesn’t test these machines before they arrive at the dealers.
