Re: Nord piano 3 vs piano 4
Are you sure a Nord Piano is best bet for your son to learn to play the piano? Wouldn't a portable piano (w speakers built-in, metronome, learning app) fit better? Or are you after a dual-use thing in order to use it yourself on stage? What about the appeal factor? Does he want it? My descendant didn't like what I liked - and didn't use it.
The Piano 4 has double the memory for the sample section. And it has the Dyno filters that are very useful for Rhodes sounds.
My advice would tend towards Yamaha P-525 or the like.

For acquiring the right habits, manual skills and feeling for the keyboard, the classic AP action is irreplaceable.
Nowadays, "silent" AP upright pianos with MiIDI output for virtual instruments and headphones for noise-free practice are also available.

Re: Nord piano 3 vs piano 4
For someone starting out, there are no meaningful differences. You'll need either headphones or monitor speakers to here it.
If they are serious about learning formal "piano" (vs general keyboard skills), the action on the NPs is much lighter than a real acoustic piano, so it's hard to develop the right technique, hand strength, etc.
The NPs are designed for stage performances. If this is a home instrument, there are likely better choices.

I think I have gear issues ....

OK thanks all for your advices
Well, I choose Nord for the quality of the sounds. I've myself a Nord Electro 6 sw and found the pianos sounds very good (as well Rhodes, vibraphon...) but I assume the Nord piano line is more close to the touch feeling of a real piano, even it's in reality very far away!!
Maybe an Electro 5 HP can be a good choice as well?...
Best regards, Fred

No question, Nord piano sounds are very good. But an Electro HP is even worse in my opinion. It is lightweight and very portable. Good to carry around. Less good for playing piano.
I highly recommend to at least take your child to try some pianos. I still believe you should find instruments which better meet your child's needs.
