Hoping for a descent Xmas Gift
Hi folks,
my biggest wish from Nord for Xmas this year would be:
A descent new Clavinet sample. The one we have is approx. 15 years of age and provides way too few note off sample. Furthermore, it is not possible to simulate the mute slider that a real Hohner C6 has. (I owned one for many years).
As Nord keyboards philosophy stands for emulating vintage instruments, the Clavinet at the moment is - at least for me - the weakest point by far.
Cheers

Re: Hoping for a descent Xmas Gift
I'd like a better Wurli, or a Pianet. But honestly they could do with some sort of new grand piano sample with some nice PP-level samples perhaps.

Re: Hoping for a descent Xmas Gift
Question really is: will we ever see a new grand? I think we will, but it will be whenever Nord rewrites their code base to allow for access to greater than 2GB of storage. Stage 5? Anyway, I’m not holding my breath for a Christmas surprise. Would be nice though.

Re: Hoping for a descent Xmas Gift
Maybe it would also get interesting if Nord dared to release a completely new kind of instrument. Not a continuation of the Nord Electro, not a continuation of the Nord Stage, but a new instrument with new technology—perhaps even with a different approach to the user interface. It would be great if they dared to do something like that.

They need something for entry-level too. I don't think they can sustain their business plan of selling only to professionals, institutions, and the idle rich for much longer. The schools and churches are getting priced out now, with $6000 Stages and $4500 Pianos. Yamaha is steadily eating their market. So are laptops with software.
Or maybe they can endure. One thing that has always been consistent is that Clavia doesn't give a hoot for the broader retail market. They don't advertise, they have no social media presence other than Facebook videos of dudes playing their boards, and their customer service department is legendary for its complete lack of actual existence.
They started out as basically a garage operation and have done very well. Once the old man finally rides into Valhalla, it's anyone's guess how long the company stays independent. They could either be absorbed or just sell down the assets and call it a long day.
