Nord keyboard playing a section assigned to an external keyboard

Post by drlaporte »

Hi,

I have an external midi keyboard connected to my Nord Stage 4 and sending data to channel 9. I want it to play the Piano section, the rest being played on the Nord keyboard.

What I did:

1. I set up the Aux KB to Piano (A-)

2. then for the MIDI parameters I have set

screen 1 - Local control : On
screen 2 - Aux kb channel : Global 1, Aux kb 9 - it displays as (9)
screen 3 - Organ channel : A Off, B <- (as Sect is set to On)
screen 4 - Piano channel : A 9, B <- (as Sect is set to On)
screen 5 - Synth channel : A 9, B <-, C <- (as Sect is set to On)

Which results in the external keyboard playing the Piano section (A and/or B depending which selected) but the Nord keyboard not only plays the Organ section but also the Piano section, which is not what I want.

Any help would be appreciated. It used to work, but I don't remember what I had done at that time :(

Thanks,

Pierre

You cannot assign the same channel to 2 settings, the () indicate it is disabled on Aux kb because it is used on Piano+Synth; if you want to use Aux KB on 9 set Piano/Synth on a different one.

Got it but what do I need to do?

I have tried:

. Aux KB set to Piano AB, Aux KB channel set to 9 and Piano channel set to Off. This makes no sound from the external keyboard (although the MIDI Led lits up) and both Organ and Piano from the Nord Keyboard

. Aux KB channel set to Off and Piano channel set to 9, and I have Piano from the external keyboard and both Organ and Piano from the Nord keyboard.

. Aux KB channel set to 9 and Piano channel set to 10, and it is the same as setting Piano channel to Off.

I am completely confused, and the Nord documentation does not really help.

Thanks,

Pierre

You still need to assign a layer to Aux, see instructions at page 54 of the manual and apply them to Piano instead of Organ, that should do the trick. https://www.nordkeyboards.com/wt/docume ... on%20L.pdf

Thanks. I managed to make it work finally - I may have mixed things up through all my trials that were not necessary as only the AuxKB settings including the AuxKB channel were to focus on. Sorry for wasting your time.
