Boot-Problem

Post by UlliM »

This text was originally written in German because my English isn't good enough. Hopefully, the automatic translation is understandable.

My Nord Electro 5 HP piano no longer produces any sound. When I turn it on, no progress bar appears to indicate the operating system is loading. All LEDs remain dark. Neither the Nord Sound Manager on the PC nor the Nord Sound Manager itself recognizes the piano when it's connected via USB.

Has anyone had the same issue before? How did you fix it?

Hello Ulli,

If I understand you correctly, neither an LED nor the display is lit, nor is there any sound coming from the outputs.

If that's the case, I strongly suspect the cause is the power supply. A first check would be to check the miniature fuse next to the power switch or the power cable with a continuity tester (or a multimeter for resistance/ohms measurement).

If the fuse is OK, you would have to open the device and systematically investigate inside to see where the power is no longer reaching it. Of course, I would only recommend this if you have experience repairing electrical devices.

Hello guitar plucker. I don't think the power supply is the problem. The display is on and shows "nordelectro5", but it stays.I think it's a software problem. I wanted to sell the piano and put it in an optimal condition by wanting to update the OS and it must have happened. Thank you for your help try.

OK, that sounds more like the boot system was corrupted during the update.

Try turning the device off and then holding down the "Store" and "Shift" buttons while turning it on again. If the display shows that the device is now in update mode, try launching the update app again (if the device is connected to USB).

I've tried everything the internet gives. The main problem seems to me that with USB connection, neither the PC's device mage nor the NORD sound manager recognize the piano. I'm perplexed.

Two Questions:

1. Was it possible to put the device into update mode by holding down the shift and store buttons while turning it on?

2. Have you ruled out all possible USB problems?

- Tried other ports (2.0, 3.0, etc.)
- Used a different USB cable
- Omitted any USB hubs

Visually inspect the USB port to see if there are any cold solder joints or contact problems on the circuit board.
