I usually program my own sounds from an INIT and it's a little annoying that the INIT patch has the cutoff set to half way. My NL A1 doesn't do this. Then when in an init you select the wave setting in osc1 it defaults to O.1 which is in the far end of the list in the waves I never use so even time I have to scroll all the way back to the start of the list. I'd like to have that default as A.1 (the FIRST wave in the list).
Is there a way to overwrite the init patch settings?

I don't think it's possible to overwrite the init file.
I would recommend saving your own "INIT-START-SOUND" file (e.g., on Bank A Preset 1) and always starting from there. This has the advantage of allowing you to pre-assign certain favorite FX, even if you're not currently using them in the sound...
