Keyboard stands are too tall...

Post by firstnorduser »

Got a Nord Grand 2! Yay!

First I just got a Gator tabletop style keyboard stand. At its lowest it says its 26". The problem is that the Nord Grand 2 has a decent amount of height (presumably because of the action) so the bottom of the keyboard to the top of the keys is probably 3.5" to 4" and it sets the keyboard too high. Seems like this will be an issue with several stands. Even compared to the Nord Piano, the Grand 2 looks "taller" so I imagine it would also be an issue with the official Nord stands which aren't designed specifically for the Grand?

I think my Steinway is 27" and some. The extra height is unbearable. (Ok I'm being dramatic, but it really is an issue.) Any recommendations for a stand that is itself lower like 24 inches or something like that? Thanks.

I have a half dozen keyboard stands, all have different heights (24" to 27"), and I sit when I play. I bought an adjustable seat, works with every keyboard stand that I have because I can make it the correct height for the height of the stand. It's rare when I have to stand to play, and most of those stands are not tall enough at their highest setting, so I bought 2 stands that I use for when I stand. Your problem sounds like you are using stock chairs wherever you play, that won't work. Those chairs weren't made with your keyboard playing height in mind.

Let me just add that the Gator tabletop keyboard stand you are talking about is one of the ones I own. At the lowest setting it is too high for regular chairs. Get an adjustable seat that can be 2 inches taller and you'll be fine. Works for me.

You'll do better adjusting your seat height with a drum throne.
I think I have gear issues ....

I bought a Pyle brand stand for my Piano 6 a couple of days ago and it’s perfect. It has lots of height positions so might suit your Grand 2. Bought it through Amazon Australia at a surprisingly cheap price of $83 and that is Australian dollars (about $65 in real money).
