Volume drops after a few minutes – Electro 4 HP

Post by Sirjamalot »

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with my Nord Electro 4 HP and I’m wondering if anyone here has come across something similar.

The instrument works flawlessly otherwise, and it's running the latest OS version. There are no pedals or external devices connected – just the power cable and headphones or line-outs.

Here’s what happens:
After a few minutes of normal play, the volume suddenly drops significantly. This happens simultaneously on both the main outputs and the headphone jack. It would then "flicker" between loud and quiet, or stay quiet for a while. Turning it off and on again doesn´t help immediately, only after a while (probably ´cause it´s cooled down then), it would play in normal volume again until it starts flickering again.

Has anyone experienced this before or has an idea what might cause it? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hmm... dumb question but... did you try playing with the volume knob(s)? maybe they are dusty or need to be fixed/replaced?

This, probably the Master Volume knob needs cleaning or replacement, you can try turning it fast 0-100% a few times to see if it gets any better.

Thanks for your thoughts, actually it did not help to "play" with the knop, this did not have any effect. Anyway, replacing the knob is something that I should probably try.

Before replacing, try also to check if the current one is well soldered or needs some resoldering + test it with a multimeter

Hi sunmary, thanks for sharing this information. I´ll check. I already got the new volume knob, which was fortunately cheap, and will open it, probably next weekend. Then I will also check the internal parts.
