A friend has asked me to help update a Nord 6 electro from 2.04 to 2.66. I have put additional instruments on before, and another is required, but I'm not sure what the best procedure is. My thoughts are to add the extra instrument/voice first, backup, then update to 2.66. Then restore the backup to get all the settings back. This is based on my PC logic but I'm not sure this is right for a Nord. What is the best practice to:
Add another instrument/voice
Upgrade from 2.04 to 2.66 and maintain the 2.04 various 'saved' settings
Thank you for any advice.

Re: Update and Save Settings - Nord Electro 6
updating your nord is like updating your smartphone - of course you can/should create a backup - but issues with firmware upgrades/updates afaik are extremely rare with Nord keyboards..
so yes, sure, add new samples, then create a backup - then just use the nord like before, all settings and instruments, presets will stay exactly the same.
updating will not wipe any data/settings.

Re: Update and Save Settings - Nord Electro 6
While it's true that firmware and samples/user data are separate things, a change from 2.04 to 2.66 might change some behaviour:
In 2.50, the MONO setting was changed from per-program into global. MIDI velocity curves for external keyboards attached to the Electro 6 got changed in the same version (can be postponed in the System menu: set MIDI Out Velocity Legacy to ON) and the local control pedal (swell) now has effect also on externally played organ (DualOrgan, ExtKB2Lo). 2.60 brought up improvements to Sample Synth dymanics. The rest should be sound-independent. So, it's a good idea to read the update history.
