Nord stage / keep or sell

Post by Laserman1 »

I have a nord stage revision C 88 in excellent condition. I want a stage 3 but am wondering if I could get by with a much cheaper keyboard midi’ed to my stage . I really want string , and other sounds that I can’t get from my stage. I don’t really care as much about the upgrade in synth. I’m also not sure how the 73, or 76 keyboard compares to the feel of the 88. I also play a stage 3 at church so that would also figure in. Thanks.

Do you like the feel of your classic Stage 88? If so, keep it! They make a great weighted controller for the NS3C and NS4C.
I think I have gear issues ....

Yes, you could add a cheaper keyboard to your Stage 3, and get the benefit of having a non-hammer action available to you (which can also be used to trigger Nord sounds) for times that might be preferable. For example, Yamaha MX49/MX61, CK61, MODX6/MODX7 are all good possibilities depending on budget. You can also get a good library of Yamaha sounds without the keys in the even cheaper Seqtrak. Of the ones with keys, the MX is cheapest, the CK gives you the most Nord-like operation, the MODX gives you the biggest/best selection of sounds and additional functionality, including being able to load custom samples, and a touchscreen song management system that can also be configured to change sounds on your Nord. Or from Roland, you could look at a Juno D6/D7 or Fantom-06/07.

Also, although the original Stage does not have a sampled sounds function, it does have the EXT sections, so besides something like the Seqtrak I mentioned, you can add strings etc. from an iPad/iPhone, too.

... I sometimes (at bigger Gigs) have the MX49 above... Just some velcro tape and a wooden extension on the K&M stand... It give me all, my NS4HA does not give me... Even some Organ-Alike-Keybed via Midi...
... onstage since '78 on the endless (?) hunt for the perfect stage keyboard...
