Nord Stage 4 synth programming contest

Post by Eumel »

Dear Nord Stage 4 users,

as I'd like to have these sounds and for the sake of fun and challenge, I want to call out a synth programming contest for the NS4. There's nothing to win but experience ;) .

The song containing the sounds is from a German band called Spliff. Their whole Album 855555 from the 1980s is great and in particular the song "Damals" uses crazy good synth sounds that are for sure fun to recreate as good as possible.

First off all here's the link to the song on Youtube:

https://youtu.be/TrKnpvzIQA4

There are several very interesting sounds.

1. The most interesting sound to me is the lead sound that comes in at 01:05.
2. At 0:17 there is a kind of industrial sound which is also very nice
3. At 0:21 there is some kind of special noise
4. At 0:50 there is a pad together with some sweeping and panning sound - very cool imho
5. There are also other synth sounds in that song that are quite interesting

I really hope I do not bother you with this contest, but a challenge is fun and I want to see different (your) approaches on how to make these sounds.

I'm looking forward to hearing your results.

Have fun

Pheew...sounds from Reinhold Heil...
He mastered the Yamaha CS80 and GS-1/2 while playing with Spliff...and also in your competition song there are many different sounds to hear (one with a S&H-Layer, one played simultanously with the guitar...). I will release the sounds one by one - and with such a song I cannot fulfill my rule ("one program per song" - thanks to the layer scene II-function)...

Stay tuned :-)

Cheers
Tim

So, dear Nordies, here's my attempt (seems to be the first...)

I assume that the original sounds are realized with a ton of classic synth gear...so for my recreations I need 3 programs:
1 for the lead (and because there is one synth slot free - I placed there the beginning pad-sound...) (damals-pd-lead)
1 for the sound 0:17 + 0:21 morphableby wheel...(damals1-2)
1 for the pad with sweep and sample&hold... (damals3)

I hope this won't be the only entry in this little contest :-)

Regards (and happy Easter)
Tim
