Leaving Keyboard On vs Shutting it Off Nightly?
Hi All,
I swear I searched for this topic 5 or 6 times with various wording, but never found anything. I am very confident the question has been asked and answered multiple times; i made my best attempt.
I have a relatively new Stage 4. I leave my PC on all night. Does it matter much if I leave the Stage 4 on all night? It boots pretty quickly. The only annoyance I have is reaching the on/off switch. Why couldn't they put it on the top where all the other controls are? I am handicapped and reaching the button is a little awkward for me, especially with the Nord music stand attached.. If I decide to leave it on with the volume down (cats...) continually is that constant heat going to effect the board? I know my electric bill; won't go up at all, a digital keyboard is not a toaster. I am more concerned about damage to the board long term?
Thank you all. I very much appreciate everyone's help.
Joe

I leave mine on, only powering them off when moving them. They draw minimal current. Not specific to the Nords, but -- in general -- the warmth from current flow helps keep the interior dehumidified, and the off/on power surges can cause wear in some situations.
Besides, I'm lazy.

I think I have gear issues ....

I don‘t think it matters a lot if you leave it switched on, except of catching spikes in Electricity like due to lightnings or so. I have a habit to switch everything off which I don‘t use at the moment just because I learned this when I was a kid, but I would not be concerned about any damages if I would leave devices powered up.

I think that you should be able to leave the on/off button pressed and use a standard switch wherever it suits you to disconnect the instrument from power. That's what I'd prefer just because of voltage spikes coming from the net. But to be really safe against damage from lightnings, you sometimes need more than a standard switch.
In the first years I owned my Stage 3, it was always plugged into a protected power socket.

Although I believe the current draw may be low, I personally like to switch off my equipment when not in use. Because I am a lazy guy, I am using a wireless 5x socket and power on / switch off my equipment in a sequenced order using the remote control. Maybe this could be a solution for you, too?

Re: Leaving Keyboard On vs Shutting it Off Nightly?
I did have the gray plastic power button break on the back of my Electro 3, after ~8 years of use. The little white plastic peg behind it remained in place, so I could still press that if needed, but after the gray plastic thing broke, I just left it in the "on" position all the time and used a power strip as the way I turned power off and on to both my keyboards and my PK-5A footpedal MIDI controller. And I continue to do the same since I replaced the Electro3 with a Stage3.
