Nord Electro 2 - Acoustic Grand (bad or broken?)

Post by itsJoel59 »

First time on this forum, hi!

So I recently got a NE2 for cheap, and am planning on trying it in a few jam sessions.
However, I noticed that the Ac.Grand is kind of bad. I knew this before buying it, but I'm unsure if this one might be faulty or not: Any note played fades out after 1 second, when holding down the key or pedal. This only happens on the Ac.Grand patch, every other is fine. Is this normal or is it just this bad? :wtf:

:thanx:

EDIT: Here's a recording:

Try reloading the sample from the Nord website? While your at it, you might load current firmware as well :)
I think I have gear issues ....

I suspected that this might help as well, although I believe an older computer is needed to run it. Maybe it could work with an emulation software...

I had heard that the acoustic piano sounds available for Electro models older than the Electro 3 were pretty bad.
But the sounds I hear in your video are way worse than anything I would have expected to have been released by Nord, so I do think there is something wrong.
If you manage to fix it, I would not expect the results to be an acceptable piano sound. But it should be way better than what you are hearing.

Yeah, I heard the same about samples being bad. I'm a beginner so it will probably do the job in a band setting...for now. I may add a VST or something later 8-)

I only ever used the piano on the Electro 2 for circus stuff.

It's pretty terrible, but in a fun way.

Haha, yeah, it seems pretty terrible. I realize now that I need to find an older computer to use the ElectroTool. It's no rush though, since everything else works.
I noticed that the OS version on mine is old, like 2.1 I think. Do you know if it's worth updating to the newest version? If I understand correctly updating the OS doesn't require (Although this does seem to require 5-pin MIDI cables rather than the USB-B) an older computer, that's just for changing sounds (which seem to require USB connection).

There's definitely something wrong with that piano sound. Although not amazing by today's standards the Electro 2 pianos are a lot better than your video.

My memory is a bit hazy but I believe at one point the piano sample format was changed which required an OS update. Perhaps you have an piano sample incompatible with your OS.

As you say, updating the OS doesn't require an old computer just a DIN MIDI interface.

The USB tool for changing piano samples can be run on a 64 bit PC using Virtual PC / XP mode.
