Using USB Midi socket for Midi in

Post by andy_k »

Not clear from the manual whether the USB socket on an NS3 can be used to send in Midi data from a USB Midi device like this one (with an adapter to get from USB Type A plug to Type B)

https://www.tecontrol.se/products/usb-m ... ntroller-2

Manual says "The USB port is used for connecting the nord Stage 3 to a computer. The connection can be used for transferring Midi, for OS updates and for connecting to applications such as the nord Sound Manager or nord Sample editor. These applications, and the latest OS version can always be found for download at www.nordkeyboards.com.

MIDI over USB and standard 5 pin MIDI connectors are both active at the same time. There is no need to choose between the two options in a menu or similar."

The breath controller will not work, the USB port/interface on the NS3 is not a USB Host.

You would need a host controller (PC, or dedicated host interface to plug the breath controller into and then output to the stage)

Somthing like one of these devices

No, it can't, this is a FAQ (in most keyboards forum) with always the same single answer: by USB standard definition, USB devices (Type B port, like both the NS and the controller are) always require a USB Host i.e a computer/tablet or a keyboard with USB Host support on a Type A port (which is not the case of NS).

There are some devices that can be used as USB MIDI Hosts both to MIDI DIN (Kenton USB host and equivalent cheaper models you can find on main online stores) or to USB (e.g. the M-Vave Chocolate Plus controller )
