Recommended speakers for Nord Stage 4

Post by jrmcanada »

My Nord Stage 4 is in my living room and is purely for personal use there. What would you recommend as a good set of speakers to use for that setting?

Hi
There are several options/suggestions.
Many users seems to like The Nord Piano Monitors: https://www.nordkeyboards.com/accessori ... o-monitor/

I use a pair of QSC CP8 or/and K8.2 (with a sub), any many users are happy with these speakers.

It usually boils down to budget, space and -- frequently -- the WAF (wife approval factor). The Nord monitors are elegant, use minimal real estate, sound great and are pricey. You'd probably want to add a small sub.

"Fill the room" sound in a larger space points you to smaller PA/monitor setups like the aforementioned QSCs and similar. Again, you'll want a small sub to feel the bass. Bigger sound, eats space, not particularly attractive for a living room, can be pricey, etc.

A decent pair of headphones can be pretty immersive for not much money.

I rehearse my NS4C through a pair of older Fulcrum Acoustic FA12s paired with a 12" RCF sub. It's a big room sound.

Thanks for the responses. I’m highly entertained by the term WAF.

My budget is approximately $1500. The limiting factor is space (which also affects the WAF). This means I’m looking for two speakers and probably not any other hardware. The QSC CP8’s are a possibility. Do you have any recommendations for speakers that are smaller in physical size?

Some time ago I read about a small speaker called iLoud Micro monitor: viewtopic.php?p=172820&hilit=iloud+micro#p172820
Seems like an OK alternative, and definitely a smaller size.

I've heard these, and they rock for what they are. Awesome for near-field monitoring, but won't fill a room with SPL.

The QSC CP8s are bread and butter in this category, as are the 8" models from Yamaha, EV and others.

The premium choice is the very awesome RCF TT08 II a ($$$). Yes, you can hear the difference.

You mentioned the 8” model from Yamaha. Do you mean the HS8?

You'll have to decide whether you want a near-field, mid-field or long throw monitor design. Near field monitors sound great up close (like the HS8), mid-fields and long throws (like the DXR8mkII) require a bit of distance to sound good.

So for living room; I'd say go for a small sexy solution with great WAF factor :D

For a living room, I'd try to remain way under 8''.

I was quite impressed by the iLoud MTM mk2, concerning the relation of space and relaxed power + precision, and liked their piano sound. They will only sit on their stand and can't be fixed, though - not the best solution if you have a dog or children. The Nord Monitors on the contrary are directly attached to a Stage - they sounded convincing to me as well.

In the end, I went with a cheaper solution for home use (Presonus Eris Studio 4) - but even with their 4.5'' speakers, they are rather big black boxes and not that elegant. And I knew they wouldn't sound as regulated as the more expensive ones (what's there from the low end is a little obtrusive and the lowest part is missing anyway). That choice was only because a higher quality wasn't necessary for this use case.
