Because of complex tour logistics, I'll need to carry only my Nord Electro 6D 61 instead of the Nord Stage 4 73 and the Electro.
I really need monophonic synths here and there and am completely clueless about how to use an iPad with the NE6.
Here's what I got so far:
- bought a good USB-USBC cable to connect the keyboard to the iPad
- ordered this dongle with a 3.5mm jack and a USBC port to expand the iPad output
- bought a stereo 3.5mm cable
With that, will I be able to connect the iPad to the NE6's monitor input and control the iPad synth apps (Moog and whatnot) "seamlessly"?
I am afraid you won't, that dongle usb-c connector is for power (recharge) only, see the symbol on it.
You should buy instead a multiport usb-c hub (or dockimg station) choosing a model that includes some USB-A ports and Audio-out (even if I'd recommend using a USB Audio interface instead. Those hubs' audio interface may not provide the best quality), example.
You won't have pitch bend, mod wheel or aftertouch either, I'm afraid. That limits the usefulness of any monophonic synth.
As far as connectivity, don't forget you'll need to power your iPad in addition to passing midi to it. I'm not sure that the NE6 passes monitor inputs to the main outputs, only headphones as I recall. You'd probably be best off with a simple mono synth with its own outputs to a mixer.
Have you explored the sample synths that are native to the NE6? There's a fair amount there.

Yeah, I thought so. I do think, however, that the iPad will "understand" what to do with it, and that the symbol really doesn't matter much. But will probably have to get a better multiport hub.

About pitch bend, aftertouch, and mod wheel: yep, it'll be messy. But if I can at least get some portamento and glide, it will do alright so as to avoid a second keyboard.
Might even sell the NE6D and get another board for this tour in particular.
