NW2 lack of piano and organ sounds

Post by pollupice »

Hi there,
I bought my NW2 at beginning of the year. Am overall satisfied about it (it's my first Nord), the only minus is piano sounds and organ sounds are not high quality / realistic I would expect. Is this a clear market strategy, in order not to overlap with other products? If so, I would argue on that.

Have tried also to sample my Kawai MP3 but with doubtful results (even if a little better than available samples).

Then I bought Spectrasonic Keyscape and Omnisphere and now am fully satisfied with my set up, but still would like to have decent piano + hammond sound inside the NW2 in order to improve portability. It would be nice to sample some Spectrasonic sound and upload them into NW2, but seems am not good enough with my sampling ability(i.e. dull sound).
Any hint how other user have solved this issue?
Thank you.

Thank you, suppose this would be a solution but Have already spent all my money on NW2+Spectrasonic.
Would like to solve it with the gear I have, without upgrading.

Well, the Nord Wave is a synthesizer resp. sample player - what did you expect?

Not all Nords are equal, NW2 is part of the Lead/Wave family of Nord products and it is a pure digital synthesizer with support only for monolayer Samples (used as oscillator waveforms), realistic pianos and organs emulation are not in its target (as it wouldn't be on an Access Virus or a Waldorf Blofeld or the likes).

I think cphollis meant that if pianos and organs are a priority for you and you want all in one board, then you probably should sell the NW2 and get a Nord Stage (4 but even a used 3 would do). Otherwise keep NW2 and you can compensate with VST Instruments as you currently do.

PS: just for Organ, there are some good B3 samples in this forum and nordusersamples.com , that you can use on NW2

That's what I meant. You wouldn't be the first keyboard player who didn't get what they were looking for from a new keyboard.

You're never going to get decent pianos and organs out of a Wave 2 (or any similar synthesizer). If you'd like to add those sounds, your options are either adding external midi voices (iPad or laptop), or adding perhaps a Nord Electro which does brilliant piano and organ but not synth.

Or you can just succumb to the inevitable and buy a Nord Stage 4.

A stage piano is a stage piano is a stage piano, a workstation is a workstation is a workstation, a synth is a synth is a synth .... you have a synth so you cannot expect it to be a stage piano or a workstation, nothing to argue on that

Dears,
@cphollis 100% true. I am Just trying not to succumb to the inevitable :D
@maxpiano : thank you I will check for that organ sample then!
@ all: has anyone set up a satisfactory patch based on one / more piano samples, able to emulate a decent piano? I know this is subjective, but..

Did you check the nordusersound.com sample library website?

https://nordusersounds.com/sounds

You will find some nice piano samples like

Royal 3D Piano

Piano3

P200 Piano1

There maybe some organ samples as well, just go there, select "Sample" from Type and "Organ", "Grand" or "Upright" from Category and see what you can get

User WannitBBBad created a couple of organ samples as well which can be found here: WannitBBBad Organ Samples

Make sure to read through that whole tread since there have been many samples added over time

Edit: fixed links ...
