Let's talk about the NS2 organ section some more!
So curiosity got the better of me the other night and I started playing with the 3 organ models, going back to my nagging suspicion that my NE3 organ tone was somehow meatier (for lack of a better term). I like dirty and crosstalk and overtones, I remember I was disappointed that there was no Vintage 3 setting in the NS2. When I got the NS2 I set it to Vintage 2 and forgot about it. So I decided to cycle through the 3 models, and for the life of me I can't hear a difference. I like to think I have a discerning ear when it comes to all things Hammond, but I'm not hearing it. Does anyone have something that they can play, a chord or combination of drawbars and vibrato or whatever that presents an obvious difference between Clean and Vintage 2, for example? I'd love to try that on mine just to see if I'm crazy or if the model really isn't different at all.
I'm running 1.60, for reference, and it's a rev B, but an early B model.

Hello bdodds,
There is really a difference between these modes.
Select vintage 2, then play notes above the shift button, for example play the F#minor notes of this chord....you gonna hear only the notes playing...then, play bass notes (from the beginning of the keyboard and up to 2 octaves...), then replay the same notes you did at the beginning, you will hear that there is now a harmonic combine to the notes, and it is never the same sound, it's changing while you play....
Regards,

Here a wav file, you should listen to it with headphones because the sound (the bass harmony) is not the same volume that the original notes you are playing
I played it without effect, no rotary...

Very instructive, thank you Daniel,
That's subtle ... a low frequency is added on the last part.
Is this the only difference between the 2 models ?

I do not know if there is more difference between these modes. I bought my NS2 3 months ago, I did the upgrade 1.60 when it came out, then I heard strange sound coming out from my organ...I never heard it before....At first, I thought that my NS2 was broke.... I spoke with Pablo and send him the wav file. Then he sent the wav file to Stockholm and they told him that my organ mode was on vintage 2 and the trigger was playing the bass notes, so I change it to clean and it will stay in that mode, because I do not like that artefact, I would of like the organ upgrade but that will never happen...

Re: Let's talk about the NS2 organ section some more!
I find the difference to be pretty noticeable when you're playing with just the bottom 3 drawbars out. The biggest effect is the leakage. You'll hear some of the high harmonics when playing low, and more low harmonics when playing high. Put a little bit of grind on the rotary and you'll hear the harmonics even more. Think the organ intro to Coldplay's "Fix You."

It does not seem to be the case Nicko.

Re: Let's talk about the NS2 organ section some more!
I hear a difference in leakage. No leakage at "clean" setting, little in Vintage 1 and more in vintage 2. It is not the same on every note played, some seem to have more than others.
