FINALLY A NE6D owner!

Post by RemedyMusic »

I've waited for almost a year fory NE6d! And the wait is over!! Well a few more days as i have to travel 2-3 hours to pick it up at the capital city (as I'm outside the capital). I will be bothering you guys here frequently as the Nord system is all new to me!!

I'm all about pianos. Use it a lot. Personal playing, i play jazz and play for my pregnant wife. As research said music helps the baby's brain development. For jazz, what are your go to pianos?

Now at gigs, it is mostly pop music. I need something very expressive for ballads like Alicia Keys piano. And i need something a bit bright for those pop music like. I'm planning to download the free piano libraries from Nord website. May i know your top three pianos for these situations?

Greatly appreciate all answers!!

Cheers and i can't wait to have my hands play this wonderful instrument.

Hi,

welcome to this forum and community and congrats to your new Electro 6D!

I don't want to destroy your enthusiasm but did you try the Electro6D 61 before you decided to buy it? I'm asking because you bought the model with the 61 key semi weighted waterfall action, which is a great action for playing organ and synth but less for piano, especially in terms of expressiveness of playing which for me is not quite good with this keybed as it would be with a hammer action (I own an NS3C with a waterfall action and a NS388 with a hammer action).

I am using mostly the White Piano for ballads and either the Bright or the Silver piano for pop/rock style music, but you can also get the sound of the White modified to become less or more bright by using the three different equalizer presets in teh piano section. Also try to play around with the KB Touch settings, I am usually using KB Touch 2 or 3 when playing rock/pop piano on the NS3C.

Hello mate!!

Thanks for chiming in!! I was reluctant to post this as i feared that i would be scolded for not browsing the forums first. I was on my way to gig hence, did not have the time to comb the threads.

Now that's out of the way, my purchase is a blind buy. We don't have a sample unit of Nords here in Philippines. I understand your concern, on the keybed. But fret not, im used to keyboard feel. Although i know that a weighted keys would allow more expressiveness in playing, mobility outweighs that option. I don't have a car. Yet. Lol. So i need something easy to carry. I know the HP is also a great option, yet still im riding a scooter to work, and putting an 88 key in front of me, would block my view, and bring me closer to accidents. Lol.

Wowwww... The white grand is recommended numerous times to me now. I hope it is as versatile as it can get. My band switches from genre to genre depending on the crowd. I need something that can cut through the mix as my Yamaha mox 6 easily drowns against my drummer, bassist, and guitarist.

Thanks for the input and i will get the L or XL versions of the pianos you mentioned to utilize full potential.

Your response is greatly appreciated

You do not have to worry about that, the members in this forum are fortunately much friendlier and more helpful than you might know from many other forums. What you may hear quite often is a good advice to read the manuals first if you have any questions related to basic functions of the Electro, but even this is meant as a helpful hint to some very valuable information.

Enjoy your Electro!

Thanks mate!! Learning the ins and outs would take some time. But for sure, i know, the journey will be worth it and enjoyable. "pardon my imperfect grammar". English comes as my second language. Lol.

This forum is by far the one of the most courteous on the Internet. Nobody gets blasted here.

That aside, take the comments about keyboard playability with a grain of salt. It's all subjective - there are plenty of people who can play the piano just fine with the SW action. I own an Electro 6D 73 myself and it's my preferred instrument for small gigs over the Piano 5. Sounds great, very light to carry, incredibly versatile and easy to use.

I would strongly encourage you to experiment with all the piano samples to determine what suits you best. The White Grand is a great piano, but you should go by your ears. And in the context of your music style and band sound. Don't overlook the uprights, as many bring their own great qualities. I play the Amber Upright as much as the White Grand for my stuff.

As you try out the pianos, don't get too hung up on the sample sizes. If you want to load a piano into try out at a rehearsal or a gig, the M or L sizes will do just fine. Most of the time, the nuances of the larger sample sets get lost in the noise of a band.

Enjoy your new instrument. Congrats!

Hey rusty!

That's good to hear. I had my share of forums that are... too strict to noobies. ;)

I have a fair experience with weighted keys and personally, I prefer them. Closest thing to the real thing. But there are downsides. As a gigging musician, playing 3-4 sets a night, playing on weighted keys makes my hands tire quickly. And as a man of almost 40, it is much more practical for me to have something lighter to play on.

Yeah my ears will still decide ultimately, I just wanted a little head start so as to avoid too much time tinkering and comparing. Roger that on the uprights. I usually don't pick uprights, but I think Nord will be an exception. ;)

Noted again on the file sizes. Makes sense. The small nuances will certainly drown in my band's noise. LOL. I'll settle with the L size I think. I have that purist mentality on values and numbers. haha

btw, since we are talking about sizes, am I limited to 1 gb of importing sounds from the Nord library with the ne6d?

Thanks again for your response

Apart from the organ engine which is pure synthesis, there are two separate memory sections for the other two engines: 1 GB for piano samples and another 512 MB for the sample engine (including strings, brass etc.).

Thanks for clearing that up! All the more reason to choose L instead of XL to be able to load up my soon-to-be favorite pianos!

4-5 days from now, I'll have my hands playing the wonderful world of Nord sounds. ;)

thanks again

I have the Electro 6D as well, and I really enjoy playing piano patches on it. I’ve owned several synth action / semi-weighted keybeds, but this is the best I’ve used for being able to play piano expressively. It really feels like the perfect balance to give you fun fast playing for organ/ePiano, but enough resistance and responsiveness to play dynamic piano pieces.
