Waveforms in the analog category

Post by Dieguet »

Hi, i´m a nord Stage owner and i´m going to buy the Wave so I want to know if anybody can tell me the list of waveforms in the analog category of the Wave.
Another question is if you can split the keyboard, I know that there is no split function but I read somewhere that there is a way to do it.
Thanks.
Diego

Hello !

About splitting the NW, maybe, you can make a single sample instrument (.nsmp) with two ".wav" files that you can
assign to the first 2 scales and the other 2 scales. But I've never tried it.
Here's the link I made for you to get the .pdf file "Nord Wave factory samples".

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QQ2YPSAU

Have fun with the NW.
Bye !

Thaks for the answer, but what I need to know is the list of analog waveforms, not the list of programs.
Thanks anyway !

Hi Diego,

are you talking about the wavetable waveforms or the factory preset user samples?
The latter you find on the Nord website http://www.clavia.se/main.asp?tm=Downlo ... &osdwn=osw while if you are after the wavetable forms I posted them here: Wavetable List.
It is for the Stage Series but I strongly believe that the Wave has all the waveforms and just leaves out the Resox samples at the end of the list.
Let me know if that's not what you are looking for!
Cheers! J

I'm not sure if this is what you want, but here are some specifications about the wave from Clavias site:
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?t ... cification

SYNTH SECTION
2 part multitimbral synth section consisting of the following:
OSC1: Triangle, Square, Saw (with sync), 62 wavetables, 2-operator FM, Noise.
OSC2: Triangle, Square, Saw, up to 99 Sampled Instruments (user defined), 2-operator FM, 22 Sampled Waves. Transpose and Fine Tune.
Oscillator Modulation: Frequency Modulation or Phase Modulation with Amount Control.
Filter: 6 types of single or multi mode filters with Frequency, Resonance, Keyboard Tracking and Envelope control.
Amplifier Envelope: ADSR controls.
Modulation Envelope: selectable AD or AR controls.
LFO 1 Waveforms: Square, inverted Saw, Triangle, Random and Soft Random.
LFO 2 Waveforms: Square, Saw, Triangle, Random and Soft Random.
Mono Mode: Mono or Legato with Glide-function.
Chorus: 3 intensity settings.

Thanks for the answer, I have this doubt because in the Wave manual there is no list of the analog waveforms like in the Stage, as this:

Wave display Waveform Explanation
S Sawtooth A plain sawtooth oscillator.
Sd Sawtooth detuned Two sawtooth oscillators with adjustable relative
pitch (Timbre knob) and detune (Unison knob).
S\ Sawtooth synced A sawtooth oscillator with adjustable pitch offset,
hard-synced by a second oscillator.
P Pulse One pulse oscillator
with variable pulse width.
PF Pulse fixed time One pulse oscillator with adjustable pulse width.
The pulse width is constant over the keyboard.
P\ Pulse synced A pulse oscillator with adjustable pitch offset,
hard-synced by a second oscillator.
t Triangle A plain triangle wave oscillator.
t\ Triangle synced A triangle oscillator with adjustable pitch offset,
hard-synced by a second oscillator.
C\ Cos synced A cosine oscillator with adjustable pitch offset,
hard-synced by a second oscillator.
n Noise A white noise generator.

But I think it has the same and more.
Thanks.
Diego

Besides the method already mentioned (creating a sample that has different sounds above and below a certain point), I believe you can split any two sounds by assigning one to Slot A on, for example, MIDI channel 1, and one to Slot B on MIDI channel 2; set the Wave to Local Off; send the MIDI output of the Wave to an external MIDI processor that can send all keys below a certain note to channel 1 and all notes above to channel 2; and then connect the output of the processor to the MIDI input of the Wave.

There used to be a number of companies making MIDI processors. Currently, the only one in production that I know of is http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm# though you could probably also do it with various computer programs if you have your Wave hooked up that way.

One of the limitations of the Wave is also that you can't send the Slot A sound out the left output and Slot A out the right (or vice versa). So if you want a split where the two sounds are output separately, you're probably back to just the sample method... where you can not just put different samples above or below a certain note, but you should also be able to put one sample just on the left channel and the other just on the right.

Thanks for your answer,
I was reading the manual and some forums and I think that there are three ways of splitting:
by creating a sample in the Sample Editor with different sounds in different zones
by triggering the slot B with another keyboard (this is not splitting but it is a solution)
by tweaking the output levels in opposite ways in each slot (this I read somewhere but I don´t really know how to do it untill I have my Wave and try)
Ok, thanks again.

I might be wrong with this, as I do not own a Nord Wave, but I think you do not need to have a list of analogue waveforms on the Nord Wave like you have to on the Nord Stage, because all the parameters that are available through different waveforms on the Nord Stage can be set "by hand" on the Nord Wave. The Nord Stage has the "Detuned Saw" f.e. On the wave you have 2 Saws that you can detune to your liking.
