Re: New EP, "Stockholm"
Does anyone know if the EP9 Stockholm will eventually have a release for older / legacy stage classic's [like i own]? I really would love to try it out someday!
I'll be honest i tend to use EP1: MK I low-deep the most because it sounds the most like my actual MK I Rhodes.

I am afraid the answer is negative, Nord Piano Library (.npno) new pianos released in the last 1-2 years have been only for .npno v6.x as far as I remember (EP8 Nefertiti had still the 5.x version but it was issued some years ago when 6.0 had just been introduced)

I figured that would probably be the case. I had a really nice long run of being able to still use most all of Nord's Piano Library. Having access to 8 EP's on a Stage Revision C that i bought used in 2009 is pretty remarkable though. that's a lot of years of being able to upgrade to the latest patches. My most recent discovery was still being able to sort of manage to install a Medium Royal 3D while still keeping up to 3 Rhodes, a CP80, and Wurly (with 0.4 mb remaining storage space). I'm always playing Tetris for getting the most ideal sounds without running out of space. Probably my only gripe about the Nord Stage Classic is that the storage space is so limited, but i've also had it 14 years. Can't complain too much.

That one is still my go-to. When I first came onboard the EP7 amped version had just been released and that was on everyone's hotlist for a time...but it soon faded, the "amped" aspect not really helping or improving the sounds of the original set. Then came Nefertiti and everyone went bonkers - but i always thought it was a bit murky, and as I have an unreasonable aversion to using EQ to "fix" samples, I dumped it pretty quickly.
Now with the Stockholm I'm running it through the paces. It's not quite as charming as the EP1 but it's a lot clearer and better-sounding than the Nefertiti. So we will see...I'm also of the opinion that Rhodes samples can only sound so good on a semi-weighted waterfall keyboard like the one on my Electro. The percussive nature of a fully-weighted Rhodes keybed was a big part of the attack and sound of that instrument.

Re: New EP, "Stockholm"
For me the the "quality / weight ratio" is not interesting.
The sound of EP 9 Stockholm is nice, but not that nice.
I mean 100 MO it's way too much, others EP are 30 MO max with enough quality to me.

Well, then go for the Lrg or Med version of the Stockholm EP, there is nothing wrong with theseProjet Xion wrote:For me the the "quality / weight ratio" is not interesting.

Re: New EP, "Stockholm"
...are XL versions of EPs meant to have the "full range" resonance, as acoustic pianos do? I ask because the concept of "tone bar resonance" itself seems a bit odd.Schorsch wrote: Well, then go for the Lrg or Med version of the Stockholm EP, there is nothing wrong with these
Re: New EP, "Stockholm"
No, nothing to do with resonance, only with fully mapped. In the xl versions every key is sampled for itself.Hlaalu wrote:...are XL versions of EPs meant to have the "full range" resonance, as acoustic pianos do? Re: New EP, "Stockholm"
Right, that’s why I‘m saying that there’s nothing wrong with the smaller ones, they might be good enough, like others are at smaller sizes according to what Projet Xion said

Re: New EP, "Stockholm"
Finally installed the Stockholm EP XL on my Stage 3 last yesterday so been playing around with it for a few hours now. First on my Stage 3 sounds different than the video that seem most are new Stage 4's which has a new DAC and sounds different from the Stage 3 in general. I was checking out the Stockholm on both my speakers and headphones since on Nords those tend to be very different sounds.
On the Stage 3 the Stockholm isn't as in your face as on the Stage 4 in the videos. Also laying into the keys its doesn't get as crunchy as the Stage 4 does. For me when listening to the videos the Stockholm sounded better when played lighter than when digging in. I don't like the Stage 4 crunchiness when the players were diggin' in. The Stockholm seems to have some lower midrange fullness the Nefertiti and others don't. To me the video with the Stockholm on Stage 4 was too in your face too bright almost compress sounding. I was surprised when some posted that they had to add some top end to the Stockholm, but once I tried it on my Stage 3 I was feeling the same way and was adding some highend. On older Nord Rhodes samples I started rolling some low end off after checking out the setting some players I like were using. With the Stockholm I don't seem to need to do that or roll less off.
In the end I like the Stockholm on my Stage 3 better than the videos of it on a Stage 4. I have been playing with the Nord Rhodes sounds a lot the last week or two and now think all of them need some tweaking that the original samples are all bottom heavy, early one are light up on top, and the newer ones the top end keeps getting brighter and brighter. Midrange is fuller on the newer samples. To my ear the newer samples have a compressed sound to me which could be why the bottom end need to be rolled off more.
I been using the J Ondre J Rhodes and like those especially Nord Corea and last night install the Michael Bereal package and liking some of what I hear in there. The Michael Bereal package as a real nice Wurlitzer in it.
