Stage 4 Monitor Input Jack Problem

I am going to actively pursue this problem with Nord uk as it’s clear that their inspection procedures are not comparable with mine
Your previous stage 3 showed no problems. Did you use iPad and tip ring sleeve lead to connect to monitor socket?

Yes I used an iPhone with a tip ring sleeve and my stage 3 Compact monitor socket sets in perfectly. Same cable.

Concerning stereo jacks, we (continental) Europeans are talking about 3.5 mm (mini) or 2.5 mm (micro jacks). Even if that's not the true size. Just to let you know, cgrafx. But that won't help anything in this case.

sorry, was going from memory but therein lies the problem. 3.5mm is 0.137795 inches and in the USA we use 1/8 inch which is .125 inches.

either way you slice it there are clearly going to be many cases where the connectors simply do not mate securely.

Normal problem solving is to determine where the actual problem is.
Therefore my recommendation would be to try out different pieces to narrow down the actual problem.
In other words, different types of gear (Telephone, tablet, laptop etc) and multiple cables.
If any of the combinations provides audio through the input, then the problem isn't caused by Nord.

This, 3.5mm (min)jacks seem to show a higher variability than standard 6.35 jacks unfortunately, on my NS3 I used several and some of them are 100% stable while others are apparently thinner and contact is not as reliable (so I stopped using them)

Yes, because 6.35mm is 1/4in making them all exactly the same.

Ok problem solved, I have 5 leads so called pro grade that work with everything apart from nords
In desperation I contacted Sound Technology UK as they had checked the board and confined it was fine
I asked if they would send me a 3.5 mm trs lead that would work with my nords and they did and it works!!
So why is the quality of 3.5 mm trs leads so poor?

Its not the quality of the leads, as explained in my previous post its the fact that there isn't actually a standard size for the connectors. 3.5mm and 1/8" are not the same size, but are used used interchangeably meaning you will have enough variability where cables and connectors often will not mate correctly.

I MIGHT HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM (At least from my end):

I sprung for a high end 3.5mm cable -- a Mogami Gold, which is the brand I use for all my audio cables in my studio. With that cable there was NO problem with the jack. A solid connection. No static ... The "Monitor In" now sounds great.

Here is the link. It's crazy, I know, to have to use a $50+ cable for this -- but whatever.

P.S. But I am not digging the Nord Product World in general ... You would think they would monitor this type of problem and suggest solutions. I wanted to use a mount on the back of the Stage 4 made for the Ipad. To use it, you need to remove one of the music stand brackets on the back. They use a Torx screwdriver. But when you try to remove it, the nut on the inside of the piano just spins ... Maybe its a nylock nut on the back, or similar. So it can't be removed. Small stuff that makes you wonder.

My Yamaha CP73 never had these wonky type of issues ...
