new OS for NS 3 ?

Post by Roty34 »

Can we still imagine an update of NS 3? (more morph possibilities.....) or it's definitely excluded with the NS 4 and all the energy it takes from Nord!!!

Well, no one can give a 100% reliable answer to that question here on NUF, still of course you/we can imagine that it may happen, NS2 received updates also after NS3 was issued (check it yourself on NS2 OS update history), but no one apart Nord product manager knows if/when/what will be done for NS3 OS going forward... I would not expect anyway an increase in morphing capabilities, it was never done on past models (and leds to indicate new morphs would be missing), maybe compatibility with NSL v4 and/or some residual bugfix.

Well until they officially declare the Stage 3 has hit EOL I would say maybe minor fixes or compatibility updates at most, I wouldn't expert Nord to be upgrading anything on the Stage 3 again. I imagine Nord's main focus for next year or so is the Stage 4 and any issues that are uncovered. After that then they will probably shift to whatever product is going to get the next major upgrade Electro or Piano? A company the size of Nord probably only has one main team that switches upgrade/new product focus one product at a time.

Have they ever officially declared such a thing?

I'm no historian but with five Piano generations, six Electro, Stage just his it fifth generation they must have EOL'd different ones. I come from software world where in general the current and previous version are considered still alive and everything beyond that is EOL. Especially with a small company like Nord you can't scatter your resources over old out of production products. I would say if you look around at all companies and many products that is the approach taken on when to stop support old products. The issue is the high cost in time and money for QA testing and you don't want anything to go out the door without a full QA test.

I of course agree, precisely because I thought that "EOLing" something like this would be an internal decision, not something that they would "officially" claim. When I read your post I thought I might have missed the time they had done that in the past with previous models.

Agree-

We waited 21 months for an NW2 update as well, and it was very little, and I don't expect there to ever be another one. The NW2 is only three years old.

Pity. I was hoping for an update to support round-robin samples.

agree, the wave2 is a good keyboard but it has no good support. It's really too bad
