NORD C2D Rotary Simulation not happy

Post by wunderbarman »

I have had my Cd2 for about 3 weeks now, I am very pleased with it up to a point. I honestly don't feel the rotary simulation sounds realistic on fast speed.
That goes for both the 122 and 145 settings. After experimenting with my new Nord through the Neo ventilator I have bought the Strymon Lex rotary which is
small enough to be mounted on the far right hand side of the C2d control panel as I wish to control it by hand because I play bass pedals and wouldn't be able
to control it with my foot.It should arrive next week hopefully. :)
I'm wondering if a new software update will be available from Nord in the near future to improve the rotary simulation? Sorry to seem negative by throwing a downer in like this.
As I said I am very pleased about the new drawbars and all the other features of the Nord, and it sounds fabulous through the vent.Love the new darker red sides too.

NORD C2D Rotary Simulation not happy

Post by Michael Wright »

I have a C2 and am happy with the sim
to a point. I find that up-scale it seems a little shrill on tremolo, I can put up with it as my plan has always been to add a Leslie to my rig and actually move some air! I too hope any future updates can improve the sim. Cheers

Which speaker are you using with your C2D?
Some powered speakers really emphasize a frequency band that is not flattering to any clone or sim.
This is especially true of EONs and to a lesser extent, the QSC range. This is not to say that they're bad speakers, as they're not.

The Sim on my C2 sounded much better when i adjusted the Fast Spin to a slower pace. It certainly sounds better than my MOTION SOUND PRO 3X !

I am curious as to a comparison of the Nord leslie, and the Strymon, and the Vent. I have he Jbl Eon g2 and the Qsc that I use with an E3.
The JBl is definitely difficult to tame the top end. The Qsc is not quite as difficult but still a little over the top.

Hi Mike,
Well my view is tainted by the Leslie sim on the C1, but I have compared the C2 - level sim on my NS2. The QSC sounds weird with the C1 - wrong frequencies emphasised - it's partly the SIM and partly the speaker. The NS2 organ sounds better through the QSC - much more realistic.
I'm not familiar with your speakers, but knowing the Yamaha 'sound' I can imagine what they do to the Leslie Sim.
I've heard enough demos online to know the C2D sim should sound very good - so keep experimenting.

I'm using two Eons G2 15 with my NS2 and the B3 - leslie sim sounds very good ;-)

Regards,

Daniel

NORD C2D Rotary Simulation not happy

How did you set up the balance between top rotor bottom rotor?
Are you using the first or second 122 simulation(122 or 122close)

Realistic compared to what?
The Vent
A 122
A 145 etc

The 122 imo is quite close in sound to how a145/122 sounds i a room. I have compared a/b to my 145 in my living room wit the leslie about 1 meter away from me.

A close miked leslie gives two pulses per revolution. If you mike 90 deg apart the pulses come at an uneven rate.
The close miked sound has it own chracter compared to what you hear in a room with just your ears a meter or two from the Leslie. The then you get a very even vibrato sound with an high amount of reflected sounds.

I had a C1 and have been listening back to some of the recordings I did on it. The sim sounded much better than on the C2D. I also had a play on the C2 and it
is also good in comparison to the new C2D. The C2D sim in 145 mode sounds similar to the Electro 3 and the new 122 sims sound to me very shallow and very much the same as the Hammond XK3 leslie simulation. I have tried experimenting slowing down the fast speed of the horns and rotary and I cannot get it to sound satisfactory :(
