Advice on new keyboard

Hi, totally new to Nord, but think it's time to get one. Primarily, I want it for studio work, specifically pianos. I am eyeing up a used Piano 2HP. Is this product worth it, if in excellent condition? Or should I spring for another model, that offer more for the $$. Thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Jim

Even if the Nord Piano 2 is a great instrument it has become quite old.
The hardware is probably still good, but since this instrument is no longer supported by Nord developing new software, it lacks compatibility to lots of great piano-samples. This includes new samples, and enhanced versions of previous samples, with added new functionality.
Therefore my advice is you look for something newer - not older than the Piano 4 (haven’t read its compatibility-status though).

This + I would not recommend an HP version for studio, as the TP100 keybed used in those models is designed for lightweight (portability, not a factor for studio works) but it does not offer the best piano touch response and in fact Nord is no longer using it since Nord Piano 5 and Nord Stage 4.

If in your studio you already have a good hammer action keyboard and you are interested only in Nord sounds, you may also opt for a different model with semi-weighted keys (like a Nord Electro, best if recent models) and pilot its pianos via MIDI .

All the Nord pianos record quite well, although they are intended for live performances. NP2 is beyond its useful service life, think NP4 or better.

Buy the newest one you can afford, for the increased memory if nothing else. The more memory you have, the more piano samples from the Nord sample library you can store, and in the larger file formats. Since you seem to be interested in the piano side of Nord, you will want to load the biggest sample files to take full advantage of their features (such as string resonance and full keyboard mapping) While it's true than in a band environment the features of the larger files might not be discernible, you'll be spending the bulk of your time playing and practicing alone, and you'll want to take advantage of what makes your Nord a Nord.

The older models have smaller memory and this will force you to continually use Sound Manager to swap sounds in and out. The Nord Piano library is like a drug - you'll want to explore it often and you'll keep coming back.
