Nord Stage price

Post by daryl7222 »

Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody has any info about why prices have increased so significantly on Nord Stage.

I'm in Australia. Currently 1 Australian dollar = 0.67 USD = 0.63 Euro = 7.06 Swedish Krona.
Compared with 5 years ago the Australian dollar and Euro exchange rate is fairly stable (0.5% different). Compared with 5 years ago Australian dollar is about 10% stronger against Swedish Krona.

I first bought a Nord Stage EX 88 over ten years ago for about 4500 Australian dollars.
I sold that in 2016 and got a Stage 2EX 88 for 4200 Australian dollars.

I noticed prices shot up a lot in the pandemic. Recently the price for a Nord Stage 3 88 was 6750 AUD. Now I see the Stage 4 88 listed for 8200 AUD.

Is the situation similar in other countries? Is this due to Nord increasing prices? Shipping costs? Exchange rates?
While shipping rates went very high during the pandemic, I thought they had fallen back to normal now.

Cheers.

Everyone is increasing prices. Supply chain problems, scarcity of components, etc. etc. etc... would you tell us that only Nord prices were up in Australia? I bet that everything else did too

If you compare Nord prices to ten years ago, try to compare wages to ten years ago.

Or compare energy prices (gas, electricity). In Germany, butter has increased by more than a 100% within the last 5 years. But recently has fallen again. No idea what will happen to Nord prices: If they will compare to butter or to electricity within the next year.

I can't compare prices to 10 years ago - my NS3C is only 3 years old. But prices have increased by more than 40% since then if you take a NS3C for a NS4C.

I can't agree with this more! Prices are thru the roof for everything after this pendemic that BTW is now being said that did start at the Wuhan lab in China like I believe happened from the very start! I don't know about anywhere else, but here in the states the inflation rate is tons higher than the wage rate! ESPECIALLY for self employed folks! With the supply chain being very slow, and chipboards still hard to come by. The price of these Nord boards has risen substantially, just like everything else!
It's becoming very costly to be a musician, especially a keyboardist these days! I believe the price of these nords in the next 5 to 10 years will reach the $10,000. Mark USD price!
Totally ridiculous...

Today's actual inflation-adjusted equivalent of 4500 AUD from ten years ago is about 5900 AUD, but electronics components have been particularly hard-hit by supply chain issues — especially for small companies that don't have the buying power of a megacorp securing deals over 100,000's of chips.

This horrendous increase in component costs may relax over the coming year or two.

While of course we have no real idea of Nord's pricing policy, I think the most reasonable thing is to adjust for inflation in SWEDEN, because that's where all the R&D and production costs are applied. Sweden has always been a high-cost country, and they currently have around 10% inflation due to all the too-well-known issues.
Then, on top of that, you have all the additional costs for international shipping (which has also increased horrendously), import, distribution etc etc. So costs are high at the beginning in sweden, and then get amplified at every successive step.
I don't know if extra-UE countries have been affected so much, so such increases probably seem unjustifiable from the outside. But here in EU we are basically in a war economy, and costs of everything are shooting up every day.

Still, I agree that the Stage is now almost unpurchasable: as far as I can remember, prices for the NS2, NS2EX and 3 had always hovered around 3000€ for the Compact, 3200€ for the 76 and 3500€ for the 88. Now it's 4300€, 4600€ and 5000€, respectively.
It was always a very expensive board, but a price increase of almost 45% makes it really out of reach for most "normal" musicians.
I will surely be rocking my NS2EX for as long as it lasts, and when I finally upgrade it will probably be to a used NS3.

My Nord Stage 2 EX cost me £ 2,500.00 in the UK. I picked up a Nord Stage 4 on Friday and it cost me £ 4449.00.

I reckon I will get about £ 1700.00 for my Stage 2 EX when I sell it. That's a pretty decent result for the time I have had it.

It's worth bearing in mind I bought my Stage 2EX in 2015, and everything has shot up since then.

But if you look at the cost over the 7-8 years, and what you could reasonably expect to sell it for at the end of that time, I'd say it is a pretty good deal if the initial cost isn't too painful.

BTW My youngest daughter has just turned 17, and I've bought her a car. If you think keyboard prices have shot up, look at the second hand car market !
