That's true but at the same time not the complete view since people agreed to pay more for a Nord than for other instruments also because of the fact that they are feeded continously with new samples and stuff. The way to do this is through their webpage, so if they miss to provide the links to new samples or new versions of samples it might attract less people to pay the premium price because they are not sure that the continous new sound provision still happens - just my 2 cents

Absolutely agree. While this issue in particular might be somewhat trivial, it's definitely not true that the only thing that makes a potential customer choose a company is the hardware only.

We could also add that a community like we have here is a big plus when choosing a Nord board.
All the patches from here (free of charge) are top notch and of course the expertise, discussion, etc…

So when a patch creator you like decides to switch to a new board, I feel the need to switch too :-)

Regards

Good point. The expertise available on this forum is extremely helpful to me and diversity covers all types of music. It's definitely another good reason to look at a Nord more closely.

The biggest issue for me, regarding the samples bungling, is not updating the Wurlitzer samples on the website. The Wurli samples in the Piano 5 restore file are considerably improved and something the Nord community has been requesting for a long time. I've loaded them onto my Electro 6 and they work just fine. Clearly they are not just for the Piano 5.

As someone who principally plays "classic" sounds like acoustic pianos, Rhodes/Wurli, and B3, this update was important for me. I don't care about new samples of Thaigongs or Bowed Vibras or yet another set of strings. The updated Rhodes samples that came out in 2018 were a major improvement that used the Dyno filters. The same can be said for the Wurlitzer ones.

It would take about ten minutes for someone to update those links on the webpage. There is no way at this point that Clavia is unaware of this. So it's not just a problem with having a messy website. It's an indolence that is an insult to their long-standing customers.

but the Soft Release option is no more available. (it is working on the 'official' 5.3 version). That is weird.
The Soft Release is not available either for the new Grand Imperial Lrg 6.1.
That's really weird.
So I reverted to the 5.3 version.
Fortunately, the other new acoustic pianos that I use are OK : White Grand XL 6.3, Velvet Grand Lrg 6.1, Amber Upright XL 6.2.

The updated Ballad EP1 Med 6.0 has also a flaw.
The string resonance is erroneously available for this layered digital piano sound.
Sounds weird at different points when the string resonance is left enabled unintentionally.

So Grand Imperial Lrg 6.1 and Bright Grand Med 6.1 do not support Soft Release, and Ballad EP1 Med 6.0 supports incorrectly String Resonance.
I don't know if other updated piano sounds have flaws.

For the moment, I will keep only the following 3 updated piano sounds :
- White Grand XL v6.3 sounds as good as the original version and has a much smaller file size
- Wurlitzer 1. 6.3 and Wurlitzer 2 6.1 sounds as good as the original version and has the Dyno filters available

Do you guys have found something else about the updated sounds ?

Do you mean the dyno filter thing or even the sound per se is ameliorated?

I think it's the use of dyno filters. I doubt they re-sampled a Wurlitzer. Whatever they did, it makes a big difference.

The Dyno filters usable with the updated Wurlitzer sounds make a huge (positive) difference.
Without these filters enabled :
- Wurlitzer 2 : no audible improvement. But the updated version is also slightly smaller in size which is always good to get.
- Wurlitzer 1 : audible improvement in the range C7 and above. There may be a sample or two that have been added. The file size is bigger this time.
