Cannot load sounds after software update using Macbook

Post by NordNovice »

Hi, I recently purchased a Nord stage two and wanted to wipe the previous owners sounds, and start fresh. I’m using a Mac book which was able to load the recent software update just fine. But I’m having problems loading the sounds I want from the library. I’m using the Nord sound manager, but the files on the laptop are grayed out and I can’t click on them. Furthermore, it asked me what application I want to use to open them. any help would be appreciated as I am stumped.
Thanks All!

Hi NordNovice

and a very warm welcome to this wonderful forum of nord enthusiasts. My first thought after reading your post was „why do you want to wipe out the predecessor‘s sounds?“ There may be some treasures among them, programmed with lots of efforts. So first of all I‘d go through them to see if I could use some of them. The factory preload is always restorable at a later point from the nord website.

Cheers from Germany

Thanks Tasten-Bert for the reply…there wasn’t much on the keyboard to begin with. Previous owner had wiped out practically all the preloaded sounds.

Still scratching my head trying to figure out what I’m do wrong.

The software update you were talking about will probably have been an update of the Nord Sound Manager.

The next thing you might want to do is applicating the restore file -- according to the instructions on the Download page. Within NSM.

The other thing you might want to update as well is the OS of your Stage 2: The version should be displayed while booting your Stage. You can compare it to the latest existing OS (3.00 from 2019) and proceed according to the product's nordkeyboards.com Download page. Not within NSM.

Do the latter first if the first one won't work.

The only other thing you need to take care of is a matching USB cable.

This could be a compatibility issue, meaning that the files you are trying to load aren't compatible to the current OS on your NS2.
As Fziegler explained, the OS version appears when you are booting your NS2 - and it should read OS v3.00.

You shouldn't click the files within the macOS finder, but you have to open up the Nord Sound Manager and choose the corresponding files (so which section/tab you have selected) which you want to upload (piano, sample, synth, program).

I want to thank all of you for replying to my post with great information on how I may be able to cure the problem I’m having. What I ended up doing was using a Windows based laptop after loading the USB driver. That allowed me to load sounds after I did a factory reset. The problem I’m having now is getting my rotary pedal to work. I’ve tried two different pedals and adjusted settings to about every combination I could think of within the instrument to no avail. I think I have a dead port because I can use my sustain pedal to control both the rotary speaker and the sustain . It seems to work fine as far as changing the rotary speaker speed from slow to fast when I’m in the B3/box/farfisa mode.

Thanks again.

What type of pedal did you try? It needs to be a (latching) switch type (with TS connector) as I think, no continuous one (with TRS). Of course, you should be able to test it with a simple (non-continuous) sustain pedal.

Always connect and disconnect the pedals when your Stage 2 is off. It would be a shame if that didn't work at all.

Try to connect your Nord (sustain) pedal to the rotary-pedal. If you are able to turn the rotor on/off with this pedal, then your port is OK.
