Re: 2 DI boxes or stereo Direct
In any case, the DXR10 should have two jack plugs on ch2 (at least if it's the mkII), so you could get both channels L & R summed up on the monitor - if from a Y cable out of the headphones jack or from the DI boxes' link-out.
That way, you play out to FoH in stereo while having a mono monitor.

Re: 2 DI boxes or stereo Direct
Sorry, I don't have a NS3, but this is what the manual says:maxpiano wrote:You can't set 3&4 to be a duplicate of 1&2 (see NS3 Manual, Output Routing Mode values)Spider wrote: Can't you set outputs 3&4 to be a duplicate of output 1&2?
7 - OUTPUT PANEL A/B
Output Routing settings below are made independently for each panel.
Use the Panel A and B buttons respectively for switching between them.
MAIN
This allows for setting which stereo output pair(s) or mono output to use
for each panel.
Range: Stereo 1-2 (Default), 3-4, 3, 4, 1-4
Doesn't the last option "1-4" mean that all 4 jacks output everything from the selected panel?

Re: 2 DI boxes or stereo Direct
You know what... I didn't read that one in that way actually, because manual says stereo output pair(s) so I considered it as 1(L) and 4(R), same as 1-2 or 3-4, but that (s) actually... uhm, you may be right. To be checked... probably you are.Spider wrote:Sorry, I don't have a NS3, but this is what the manual says:maxpiano wrote:You can't set 3&4 to be a duplicate of 1&2 (see NS3 Manual, Output Routing Mode values)Spider wrote: Can't you set outputs 3&4 to be a duplicate of output 1&2?

That would make it even easier as you said: setting it to 1-4, send 1-2 to FOH and 3 or 4 to monitor. Neat.

Re: 2 DI boxes or stereo Direct
Ok, back to FZ’s reply…yes, correct, my DXR10 mkII has 2 jacks, L&R. So I will check with bands PA today to see if there are two available lines for keys. I’m understanding: use two DIs, one for each channel, to the pa mixer 2 lines. Dial in stereo button on DXR, and remove ‘mono’ pianos on Nord. Then from one my DIs, I can cable out to my headphone monitor jack, as I don’t seem to mind mono only in my monitor.
As u can see, im pretty remedial and need to keep simple. It’s hard to test out when I don’t have pa on hand. Also, keep cost down.

Per the above…”even easier as you said: setting it to 1-4, send 1-2 to FOH and 3 or 4 to monitor. Neat.”
If this would work to make my wiring set up easier, then can someone test it and provide details?

Tested, it worksMEL868 wrote:Per the above…”even easier as you said: setting it to 1-4, send 1-2 to FOH and 3 or 4 to monitor. Neat.”

Note: you have to do the setting on each Panel (and keep Output Routing Mode = Global, unless you want to change it per Program, but I guess it is not your case).
EDIT (IMPORTANT!): when Leslie is active on a Section OUT 3-4 are excluded (muted), even when using the 1-4 setting

Re: 2 DI boxes or stereo Direct
Personal opinion? An inexpensive pair of IEMs is better for me in every way than any stage monitor speaker. And I have some very nice stage monitors. If they are ambient IEMs (or non-sealing) you get plenty of bleed from the band, the stage monitor, etc. This is also true if you're expected to provide "stage sound" via your own amplifier.
I think I have gear issues ....

Re: 2 DI boxes or stereo Direct
Hi Mel,MEL868 wrote:I’ve been using a whirlwind IMP 2 DI box for stage, running mono TS (out 1), and output 2 to my Yamaha dxr10 powered speaker.
I’m talking about live situations where there is no need for recording. I only have one keyboard to monitor and no need for sub-mixer. Only want my NS3 sounds on my monitor. No need for a dedicated monitor mix from the FoH. (I captured this from Ziegler’s post on DIs), but this pretty much sums it up.
I’m not savvy and like to keep it simple and lowest cost.
I could add a DI box - as I understand I would need two channels in the main. Or I could consider stereo.
What’s a simple solution, besides laughter, and any suggestions of a stereo box (active?) and best way to hook it up?
For live situations it doesn’t matter if you use 2x Mono DI boxes or 1x Stereo DI in terms of sound quality. The major difference of some of the stereo DI boxes is that they have matched transformers build in, to have the lowest possible signal differences between the two channels, while transformers of mono DI boxes might differ more. However, that’s a more or less theoretical point, especially on live gigs where these subtle differences will not be audible at all. The only positive point of using a stereo DI vs 2x mono DIs is that you have one device to place, not two.
I use the Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo Di box on occasions where I play just my NS3 Compact, nothing else and have no need for my full pedalboard incl the KeyLargo mixer. I place the Canvas Stereo box underneath the bottom of the NS3, fixed with some Velcro - easy and no cable hassle.
Active versus passive DI boxes is a different thing, active might add some volume at the cost of potential noise, while passive might reduce the level a bit

You’re welcome - the Walrus is not one of the cheap boxes but high quality and small footprint, which was important for me
