NS3 vs. NS4 and Lead A1 vs. Wave 2 synth engine

I feel this warrants a separate thread as it's about the transition between the two models in the context of two other models, and in any case the main NS4 thread is now mostly 44 pages of noise.

Have there been any definitive conclusions on the relative merits of the Lead A1 synth engine versus the Wave 2 synth engine? I love the sound of the former. The NS4 is described as inheriting form the latter.

Does the Wave 2 engine do everything the Lead engine does, and some, or are they quite distinct beasts? I lean more towards traditional subtractive synthesis.

Context: I'm a Piano 5 owner. I'm considering consolidating the P5 and one of my other hardware synths into a single instrument. An NS3 or an NS4.

I suggest to wait for NS4 manual, to better understand in detail what of Wave 2 and to which extent has been incorporated in the new NS4 Synth section.

Also in case of NS3, its synth is derived from A1 but with pluses (e.g sample playback) and also minuses.

Ah okay, cool. Sounds like both engines are ‘derivatives’ of their origins then. Yes probably most effective to compare manuals when available.
