I understand whatever new features are in the new format (dynamics, controls, etc.) would not be available to the lower format, but the sound would be there. I bought the NS3 partially based on the idea that I get new samples in the future, knowing of course that my NS# memory will obviously limited. Do I have it wrong?
The NSMP v4 is about Nord Sample Library (Synth samples), not Nord Piano Library/samples which is still the same.
An OS update to enable .nsmp4 on older boards like NS3/NE6/NG is highly desirable and we can just hope they will make it, sometime

OK, but just to confirm, if they release a new grand piano sample for the NS4, I will be able to use it, or a nearly identical one, on the NS3 if I make room for it, correct?

On the one hand I'm excited that a new model is coming out. On the other hand I'm kinda torn as it felt only recently I got the NS3 only to have a new one coming out. I alreasy expected years back for a new board to come out around this time but I figured I needed a new board and the NS4 was taking too long and ended up getting the NS3.
Perhaps it's not all bad. I'm considering getting a smaller board anyways so we'll see if the overall new NS4 seems great features action and all.. I'll probably still keep my NS3 88 but maybe eventually get a NS4 73 on the side.. whether HA or compact that's another question that will need testing...

The Piano 5 has the chorale effect on the reverb. It's a little more subtle than something like the Big Sky, bit it sounds great. I use it a lot combined with the amp models overdriven for some cavernous, squealing ambience!

Correct.
.... as long as they don't change the Piano sample format .... which is possible in general but not very likely

It was my perception that the Stage 3 had more teething problems with its software than the Stage 2 ever did, and that it took a while for those to be resolved in the Stage 3. Let's hope the Stage 4 does not have similar problems after its release.
I think it is great that they used the NW2 Layer architecture for the NS4. I am disappointed that they still have 2 layers each dedicated to Organ and Piano.
