This is correct, you can only connect to a single Nord keyboard. You will need to go back and forth between them-

I should have been more specific. I never meant to ever have them connected simultaneously, rather going back and forth between them as you say, to save and manipulate files one keyboard at a time, or swap programs between them, while keeping track of which files were related to which keyboard.
And potentially naming the keyboards “Stage eins” and “Stage zwei”. (a tip of the hat to Joe Zawinul) to keep better track.

It appears I can completely restore the entire contents all at once, but not single programs or banks of programs only.
Rename the backup file to .zip and unzip it, you'll see individual Programs and Samples
This may be an answer to what I’m trying to accomplish. I’ll try it soon, thanks.
I’ve tried quite a few things and I am able to easily do complete backups and restores, to or from either keyboard easily. But I haven’t been able to figure out a way of saving a single program I create on one keyboard, and then loading it into the other. The two Stage 3’s will spend time at separate locations and I’d like to be able to create on one, then load into the other. I’m sure there’s a way, just haven’t figured it out yet. But thanks for all the help so far, much appreciated!
1. Save your program in one of the NS3 units
2. Open up Sound Manager and go to the program tab
3. Find the program you saved
4. Right-click on that program and select Upload
5. Pick the location folder on your computer.
6. Click Open and the file will be saved to that location.
7. Close Sound Manager
8. Connect the usb cable to the other instrument.
9.Open Sound Manager. Click Program then Click Organize.
10. Find a blank location then drag the program saved on your computer to that location.
I have folders for both of my instruments and I do this often to save my programming work. You can shift-select or select-all and save multiple programs the same way.

This sounds like exactly the process I’ve been looking for and I will be able to try this tomorrow. I definitely need to get more familiar with Nord Sound Manager. Thank you for your advice, much appreciated!

I have two NS3 units and prior to this, I had multiple NS2 units. I'm frequently moving Programs and Songs around between both of my NS3, one of which is mostly for rehearsals and sound creation, and the other one stays in a flight case for my gigs.
I have never made both units "exactly" the same as I like having a little bit of variety, LOL. What I have done is made sure that all my important gig sounds that span 3-4 bands are identical or at least close enough.
I never do the "full backup" approach and instead, I prefer to save Bundles and move those between instruments. With Bundles, you can select a series of Programs or Songs and upload that Bundle via Nord Stage Manager into the laptop. For example, let's say I have 60 Songs that I have created for one band, all in one of my NS3. I can select those 60 Songs and upload to my laptop, then switch my NS3 to the other one and download those same Songs. Once you have the samples matching in both units, an even quicker way is to simply save a bunch of Programs and then download those to the destination instrument (takes seconds for Program uploads, vs. minutes for Bundles and potentially hours for full backup).
Nords: NE2, NS2 88, NS3 Compact x 2
Live rig: NS3, Vent, Radial KL-8, Shure PSM-900 IEM Rig, UE18 & UE7 IEMs.
Studio: Hammond A-101 & Leslie 122, Yamaha CP-80, Yamaha S90, NS2, DSI Prophet-6, Vent II, Roland JX-8P.
Thanks to everyone for all the help. I only recently bought the second Stage 3, so up until now all I ever did was create full backups in case mine was somehow lost, stolen, or damaged I could restor the replacement. Good excuse as any to actually learn the Sound Manager methinks.
