Well i finally bit the bullet and quit whining about the price and got myself a Piano 5 73.

The keybed is certainly very 'posh' feeling in comparison to the HP of my Electro. Its very smooth and a touch heavier, certainly very pleasant to play, so feeling very pleased with myself at the moment :D

Congratulations Kirsty!
And don't forget to tell us about your experiences once you have played on the NP5 for a while.

So after a while with the Piano 5

My impressions are that I have connected well with it. The action does feel more premium than the prior HP action (although I didnt dislike it). The action is more smooth with no clacky noises.
It does feel slightly closer to the action on my Yamaha C6 acoustic grand given the key weight is heavier.
I do like the two sound engines function which has expanded flexibility of layering two piano sounds on top of each other. Great for using an AP + Digigrand sample to create that 'Elton John' live piano sound.
Seamless transitions are nice if swapping a patch mid song, an advancement from my previous board.

In all some upgrades in experience that werent necessity, but are a nice to have now they are there.

It was a luxury upgrade, it wasnt needed and in practice this board doesnt do a huge deal more than the very first Nord Piano 2 that I bought back in 2014. The 'Nord' playing experience and ability to select different piano samples is still the key attraction but as in other threads there hasnt been a great many new grand piano samples as of late.
The NP5 73 although a more portable package is heavier than other shortened keyboard variants too and its noticable. The Stage 2 & 3 EX76 is some 4kgs lighter than a 73 key NP5.

Overall I'm happy with it and its a very nice top of the line stage piano :)

FWIW I bought one perhaps a bit after you did, Kirsty. I too consider it a luxurious upgrade from the NP4: nicer keybed, dual piano engines -- and the 'deep' chorus effect is interesting. Not to mention a much easier schlep to and from gigs. If you're a piano-centric player, it's a very nice experience, without getting into the Nord Grand.

Kirsty, do you play only at home or do you take your instrument out for rehearsals/gigs?

Yes Mike I am out of the house with it a couple of times a week at the moment. As it happens I'm irritated as last week I seem to have lost one of the knobs at the last session. No idea how or where it ended up!!.
I'm In touch with Nord spares to try and get another.

At home I tend to just play my grand. I can't top that experience and the Nord rarely comes out at home. Only if I am tweaking things or fancy playing EP's once in a while.

As tempted as I am to upgrade the playing experience from my Stage 2EX 76, I’m still put off by the weight. The NP5 is 3kg heavier, and I would strongly prefer to reduce the weight, not gain it.

I’m eagerly waiting for the next Electro to be announced, hoping it will use the upgraded Fatar action and still keep the weight down. I don’t use the synth section in the Stage, and would enjoy a simpler and lighter instrument.

Hi there!

I got a quick question - couldn’t find the answer on YouTube or the manual..

When I am deep in the program library on let’s say, Programm H45, can I jump directly to A11?

I know I can search for numbers with the number button, but I can’t find how to change between capital letter in front of the numbers 1-5/1-5. I also know I can go in the list view with shift + list knob, but again I can only sort the sounds alphabetically, so I’d pick any sound that is in the ‚A section‘ and then dial the numbers 11.

Is there an even quicker way?

Maybe if you created a small category, you could sort that way and get around a bit quicker? One feature I wish the NP5 had that the NS3 does well: setlist creation. Programs can be wherever. One can drive program changes on the NP5 from the NS3 using its extern function, BTW :)

I think I don’t quite understand what you mean by ‚program changes on the NP5 from the NS3‘ - I don’t have a NS3.

So seems like there’s no way to quickly switch between the Programm banks?
But, I can exchange the sounds from the banks, so I have all the programs I need in the whole Program Bank ‚A‘, right?
I think I saw a tutorial about it.

If so, That could do it for me.

Btw., read many of your posts and am looking forward for my pair of QSC 8.2s!
