Nord Piano 5 - combination with M-Audio Ex-P Expression Ped.

Post by Jatzemann »

Hi there,
yesterday I´ve got my new Nord Piano 5, and switched for the first time to Nord.
It feels great and the first gig today and it sounded great.

But unfortunately I didn´t manage to get my M-Audio Ex-P Expression Pedal to control the overall volume of the instrument.
I´ve read the manual and couldn´t find the information whether this pedal should work for that.
I´ve passed through a menu where I could select the purpose of any pedal and I´ve chosen "volume + ctrl" ... but it doesn´t do the trick.

Any hints for me?

Hi and welcome to NUF.

as manual says

The Control Pedal is by default used for controlling the volume of any layer where Vol Ped has been turned on so you cannot control the overall volume as a single setting but you have to activate "Vol Ped" in each program and for all sections you want to control by the pedal (VolPed activation is Shift+DynComp on Piano section, for example).

Hi Jatzemann

and a very warm welcome to this wonderful forum of nord enthusiasts.

You need to activate the VOL PED function per sound section: Hold SHIFT and press the desired VOL PED button.
And the cable needs to be a TRS one.

Cheers from the middle of Germany

Thanks for the hints !!!
I´ve read the manual... and didn´t see this. Sorry for that !! Perhaps I was too much in a hurry.

My expression pedal seems to have an trs-cable, so I suppose it should work if I do it as you described. I´ll have to try at the next gig and will let you know. ;)

Thanks for the info and good luck with your next gig - although I usually tend to test such things earlier, at least one rehearsal before the gig, to make sure that I can rely on all parts and benefit from their features.

FINALLY I was able to find some time to check this out.
And it´s working great right now. On top of that my pedal has a tiny knob at the side where I can decide until which value the volume is going down, so practically the sensitivity.
Thanks again for your comments!

... and Cheers from the middle of Germany here too! ;)
