Re: Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D
There is one thing in general which has always taken me by surprise, and that is „upload“ is from the nord to the PC whereas „download“ is vice versa. In my imagination it’s always the other way round, because I have the PC‘s mouse in my hand which for me defines the perspective. But be it as it is, as long as you are aware of this.
In Sound Manager you see sounds marked with „unused“ (I think it was - I‘m not in front of my computer) which means all these files can easily be deleted to free some memory space. It may help you.
Cheers
Amendment: npno files belong to „Piano“, nsmp or nsmp3 files belong to „Samp Lib“.

Re: Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D
History...
My electro6D was only used by me for presets/patches that suit my band.
Bandmates asked for bell sounds for a couple of Christmas numbers. That is when I started to look at the keyboard mechanics for the first time.
With USB connection, I used the Nord main page to download info for my 6D.
I found a few bell sounds that would suit. I downloaded them but could not get them to enter my machine at all.
[Subsequently I realise I may not have downloaded appropriate files].
For some reason, when I tried to download three or four small files, my Nord downloaded a full keyboard set in one of the three download areas.
I joined the forum here and thought that I could factory restore because hopefully it would erase all the files I didn't want, and that I would be able to download the bell sounds afterwards.
When I set about a factory restore, my iMac didn't recognise the file type for a 6D restore, and I opted to choose a file but it wouldn't work.
I know having screenshots would help to track what I've done but I can't get my images to upload. (My lucky day).
I will try and upload some images but it might take a while.
ONE CONCLUSION: Not all files will work on all boards. I realise that now.

Re: Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D
Yes they work
So first thing - the area to operate in for loading samples like the bells by Nord Sound Manager to your Electro is "Samp Lib", you therefore open Sound Manager and click on "Samp Lib" (like you did in the second of the threee pictures).
Now, what are the exact file names of the samples you want to load onto your Electro? Can you possibly post a screenshot from Finder showing these sample files in their directory on your Mac?
And as a side note: yes, Bert is correct - Nord Sound Manager is based on a Nord-centric view of the world, means everything is seen from the instrument. Download means "load something from your computer to your Electro" and Upload means (load something from your Electro to your computer"

Re: Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D
I just wrote my story - and it hasn't saved.
I will willingly write that story again but I hope the images that follow give an idea of the trail.

Re: Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D
I was trying to help you find out where the problem is, and I haven't seen any information been given about the file names and extensions of the bells samples. The reason I am asking for these is because I want to make sure that these are correct .... no need to write the whole story again, but just provide the missing pieces if you like to get some help.
Second (or maybe first one at all) question: did you turn off memory protection in the system settings of your Electro?

Do you mean the three images of the different sections of Nord Sound Manager, which you mentioned as "This is what is in my 6D." ??

Re: Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D
So, this is the first step you want to take to get what you are aiming at: Restore the factory content of the Electro 6. This is done through Nord Sound Manager as well as the other step that's following.ReallyBrown wrote:When I set about a factory restore, my iMac didn't recognise the file type for a 6D restore, and I opted to choose a file but it wouldn't work.
The web page you need to contact is https://www.nordkeyboards.com/downloads/nord-electro-6. There you can download the restore file (Nord Electro 6 Factory Restore RevD v2.5x.ne6b). Maybe, your iMac won't know what to do about that file. Don't worry: The restore instructions PDF from the same page will tell you what to do! Open NSM, hit the Restore button in the menu and locate the downloaded file, click open. Continue along the questions. This should work.
First part accomplished. It may take some time, though.
