RE: Two Samples On A Single Note?
Hi folks,
I wanted to ask, please, if this is possible on an Electro 6D:
To assign TWO different samples to the same note? So, for instance, a Flute sound on C3, and a String sound also on C3?
It looks like I can drag and drop the two Wav files onto the same note within the Nord Sample Editor s/w. But when I transfer them to the Electro 6D and play the note C3, only ONE of the samples (instruments) sounds.
Many thanks for any kind assistance offered here . . .
Best,
Paul David Seaman (UK)

Re: RE: Two Samples On A Single Note?
no, the electro can only play one sample at a time. The only way to accomplish this would be to create a sample that has both the flute and the string sound combined into a single sample.

I guess the OP has meant his question to be referring to Sample Editor software which I don‘t know anything about. Who can help?cgrafx wrote:no, the electro can only play one sample at a time ...

I think you need to layer the samples with an audio editor / audio workstation, then make a Nord sample out of the layered audio file(s).

Re: RE: Two Samples On A Single Note?
You can assign more than one sample to a single note in the newer NSE versions as the newest sample format (used in the Piano 5 e.g.) supports round robin sample playing. Which means the different versions of the sample are played alternately - which is certainly not what you'd want.
But as you don't have the Piano 5, no such thing will happen on your Electro 6 - it's only a feature in sample format v4. If you want a combination of both sounds, you need to mix them down and import the mix.

Thanks a lot.

So layer the two individual samples in (say) Cubase and then export them as a single Wav - to be imported into the Nord Sample Manager.
I was also talking to somebody else about this today. I think that after combining two, or an absolute maximum of three, samples together then you are going to risk running into all sorts of unwanted problems. But two should be fine.
Cheers.

OK, I see now. That makes sense. It was just a bit deceiving that the NSE allows you to stack more than one sample atop - but of course this is not actualized by the Electro synth itself.
I'm not complaining in any way though. In fact I would have been quite surprised if it performed exactly what I was initially asking.

I never even heard of "round robin sample playing" before!

Correct, my only Nord (and my only sampler) is the Electro 6. I like it specifically because it is a very good 'all-rounder' as it can do a bit of everything. And also because it's very light and compact.
