EXTERN program change issue

Post by musicbysterling »

Hello,
I'm trying to set up a Program using EXTERN to send a program change to a VST I'm using in Gig Performer. If I'm reading the manual correctly, on page 7 of EXTERN I have PC set to Program Number 1. On page 6, I have Send On Load turned on for PC. I then saved this to a Program. I then set the VST program to receive program change #1. However, when I select the appropriate Program on the Stage3, the VST is not responding to the program change. I have set all the controllers on the Stage3 correctly with the VST so everything is working as it is supposed to other than the program change in EXTERN being received by the VST. What am I missing?
Thx
Mark

Do the outgoing MIDI channel on the Nord and the incoming on the PC match?
Stage-3-C (Rev.B 2.1) - Kawai VPC1 / Viscount Legend 70s / Yamaha CP33 - Hall of Fame & NeoVent2 - Behringer Flow-8 - K&M stands 18820+18811 / 18953+18952 - Samsung Tab S5e, MobileSheetsPro & AirTurn Duo200 - QSC K8.2s / Fischer InEars

Yes. The VST is receiving every CC message from the Stage except for PC.

Sounds to me like the VST MIDI in channel is the Stage GLOBAL MIDI out channel. As far as I know, Extern can only send out one CC parameter.

Check in the MIDI menu the "Global Channel" setting and ensure it is not the same as the Extern or as a test set it to Off , if you want only the Extern section to send MIDI data to the computer (VST) on that Channel (I assume you are using Ch1 for the VST, if so check also the Ch setting in Extern menu is correct).

Another test to do, if you still want to use the Global Channel, is to disable the Program Change send of NS3 in MIDI menu so that only the Extern will send a PC.

PS: recommended reading The Nord Stage MIDI Tutorial

Setting Global Channel to Off or a different channel does nothing. Disabling PC change also does nothing. Still very. Reading the Extern manual section is not helping me in this case:(

There are two panels in each program and each one has its Extern settings. If both panels are enabled, make sure they have the same midi channel assignments and PC parameters. Global midi should be turned off-

Use a MIDI Monitor on the computer and see what MIDI messages are being sent by the Nord Stage, particularly if any PC, then report here.
